The MBA Mother's Day Classic has quickly become one of my favorite annual tournaments to cover. The facility at MSA Woodland and format creates a great opportunity to evaluate many prospects throughout the day. I appreciated the structure of having a one-day event, with 2026 and 2027 teams competing at the same facility in different time slots. The gym was packed for the 2026 games with D2 (GLIAC) and D3 (MIAA) coaches, while JUCO D2 (MCCAA) and NAIA (Crossroads, WHAC) coaches were also well represented. MBA did a phenomenal job hosting. They anticipated the flood of coaches and had plenty of chairs spread out along the baselines. MBA also had bleachers available for spectators and families to use. The hot concessions allowed me to stay all day without leaving the facility! This tournament provided a unique opportunity to evaluate [program_tooltip program_id='928192' first='Zero' last='Star Basketball'], an Upper Peninsula travel program based in Marquette, against some of Michigan's top prospects and teams.

As you can imagine, my coverage prioritized watching [program_tooltip program_id='928192' first='Zero' last='Star Basketball']'s 17U and 16U teams, while still observing many additional games throughout the day. Here are several 2026 point guards who were among the best prospects on the court during the games I observed Saturday.

Hailey was dialed in from three point range at the MBA Mother's Day Classic. She buried a straightaway triple and another from the corner with a quick catch and release. Hailey actively pressured the ball on defense and took a steal quickly the other way to cause a foul--she sank both free throws. She threw strong lob-entry passes to teammates and was a difference maker on both ends for Mystics 2026 S40.

Libby was surgical with her passing at the MBA Mother's Day Classic. She dished overhead passes through tight windows on a rope to teammates, which gave them high-percentage looks at the basket. She has a shooter's touch from outside, ripping the net with a wing three and another triple up top. Libby changed the game on defense by deflecting passes and blocking shots. One of her highlights came when she caught a pass, split defenders with a quick dribble, and finished the play with a tough and one layup. Libby is one of [program_tooltip program_id='713450' first='REAL' last='']'s top prospects.

Myah was one of the best point guards in the gym at the MBA Mother's Day Classic. She showed an explosive burst driving to the basket and demonstrated her high IQ by kicking the ball out to open shooters. Myah finished contested layups, pursued rebounds, drained a straightaway three, and converted her free throws after forcing defenders to foul. Her quick change of direction crossovers, and explosive steps made it nearly impossible for defenders to keep her from driving. A true court general knows where passes need to go, and Myah made great decisions with the ball.

Sophia was a breakout performer last year, and she had another great day for MBA GUAA 2026 at the Mother's Day Classic. Sophia finished off two feet, used a swift spin to score a contested layup, beat defenders with a burst to score another layup, and drilled a corner three. Sophia caused steals on defense with her pressure and was effective at initiating contact to create space in contested situations--she's strong and tough.

Kara had a golden opportunity to prove she belonged with Michigan's best 2026 point guards--that's exactly what she did with Zero Star 17U at the MBA Mother's Day Classic. Kara was electric with her shifty crossover dribble combinations and pinpoint 3-point shooting off the bounce. Kara had the best floater game at the tournament, dropping in many with a soft touch and excellent footwork. She landed on two and used a step-through to finish against a defender, scored a crossover floater off the glass, and a jab step spin floater off the glass. Kara froze her defender with a hesi and crossed her over to score a layup, then blew by to score a straight line floater off the glass on the next possession. One of my favorite highlights from Kara was when she looked off her defender, staring into the distance, walked her down to the wing, and fired a quick shot off the dribble for three. Kara drained a volleyball line triple and added two more in that game--she has the confidence, competitive fire, and swagger you want in a lead guard. Kara should have her phone ringing off the hook after her performance on Saturday.

Ava looked her best at the MBA Mother's Day Classic for Mystics 2026-P24 Ruh. She blew by a defender using a quick sweep to score a soft floater at the rim. Ava finished layups with both hands, showed her competitive fire by ripping the ball away on defense, and buried a pure wing three. Her shiftiness, fundamental skills, and quick decisions with the ball make Ava an outstanding lead guard.

Vanessa was effective on both ends for Mystics 2026 P24 Ruh and showed why she is one of the best point guards in her class at the MBA Mother's Day Classic. Her shifty ball-handling, aggressive defense, perimeter accuracy, split-second decision making, and finishing dexterity set her apart. Vanessa was active on defense, putting pressure on the ball and turning steals into fast break layups. She blew by a defender with an explosive downhill burst and finished the play with an emphatic and-one layup. Vanessa drained a silky smooth, balanced step-back triple off the dribble.

Aviana impressed me because of her all-around impact for Mystics Jackson 2026 at the MBA Mother's Day Classic. She drained a straightaway three, changed directions suddenly with a flurry of crossover dribbles, and buried a mid-range baseline jumper off the bounce. Aviana used her long arms and quick feet to pressure the ball on defense, cause deflections, and snag steals. She drove into a jump stop and finished with a tough, contested layup. Aviana threw overhead passes on a rope to teammates for assists and will be a point guard to keep your eyes on this spring.
