By the time Summer Jam tipped off on Friday afternoon it was steaming outside. With a field that included the best of the best in Minnesota and plenty of talent from beyond our borders, the action on 10 courts at Shakopee High School was plenty hot, too – even if the air conditioning had us all shivering on the sidelines.

With a record 441 teams playing 881 games at 5 locations this year, the annual [program_tooltip program_id='712722' first='North' last='Tartan'] extravaganza – always the biggest tournament of the AAU season – never seems to disappoint. The highlight of opening day was the return of some of Minnesota's most exciting young prospects, truly elite talent now based in Iowa for the summer. Here's a look at Friday's finest at Summer Jam.

RETURN OF THE BIG THREE

[player_tooltip player_id='377583' first='Mya' last='Wilson'] is the top-ranked prospect in Minnesota's Class of 2027. [player_tooltip player_id='433933' first='Chloe' last='Johnson'] is the #1-rated prospect in the Class of 2028. [player_tooltip player_id='565312' first='Ari' last='Peterson'] is one spot behind her. With credentials like that it's not surprising that there was much anticipation about the big threesome's first return home of the 2025 AAU season. Competing for All-Iowa Attack out of Ames, the trio has lit it up all summer across the country.

On Friday they went to battle with a strong Wisconsin Thrive squad, a hot-shooting unit that gave the Attack trouble early on. We saw the Thrive at the Prep Girls Hoops Legacy Region Finals in Appleton, WI a couple weeks back where they were very impressive. When you have the lineup AIA has, however, it was only a matter of time before the tide shifted in their favor. The turning point was a timeout early in the second half when there was a change in tactics. After that brief interlude, AIA attacked the rim possession after possession with Wilson and Peterson leading the charge.

Wilson cashed in at the basket with the combination of speed, skill and physicality that has been her trademark. Peterson went coast to coast at s speed that was impossible to defend. Meanwhile Johnson was doing her thing – she is the top-ranked 2028 point guard in the country – although she was hampered somewhat by an ankle sprain that had kept her off the court all last week prior to Friday's game. A shoutout, as well, to Brinley Altenburg of Sioux Falls, SD, who was her usual outstanding self. The result of their combined excellence was a 67-52 victory.

THE BEST 7TH GRADER WE'VE SEEN

[player_tooltip player_id='923286' first='Ashlee' last='Wilson'] – 2030 guard, Hill-Murray

Ashlee is a rare 7th-grade talent with the poise, skill, and athleticism of a seasoned varsity player. Widely regarded as one of the best in the country for her class, she played three years up on the 16U team for All-Iowa Attack at Summer Jam and was clearly her team's best player. Ashlee is graceful and fluid, with elite body control and a deep bag of tricks. She finishes through contact, shoots with confidence, and sees the floor like few players can. On defense, her length, anticipation, and energy make her a constant disruptor. She plays with purpose and composure, never rattled and always hunting the ball. Drop her into any game, and she adapts immediately. Wilson's combination of talent, IQ, and work ethic makes her a must-watch for years to come. It will come as no surprise one year from now is she is selected as the top PGH Minnesota prospect in the Class of 2030.

ANOTHER DIVISION 1 POINT GUARD

[player_tooltip player_id='872714' first='Beckett' last='Greenway'] – 2029 guard, Providence Academy

Beckett is a rapidly evolving 5'7 point guard who combines elite quickness with advanced court sense. She's slippery and shifty, and it's impossible to predict what she's about to do next on the floor. Greenway does everything fast – from pushing the pace to making decisions – and rarely makes mistakes. The [program_tooltip program_id='712722' first='North' last='Tartan'] 2029 EYBL leader is a high-IQ player with excellent vision, a tight handle, and an accurate passing game. Offensively, she can bury mid-range jumpers or long threes and gets downhill to finish or draw contact. Defensively, she's active and alert. Her length and speed help her contest shots and jump passing lanes. Beckett is already a strong mid-major prospect with offers and is now drawing high-major conversations, as well. Her natural feel for the game, combined with her speed and skillset, make her a special talent among incoming freshmen.

TWO MORE RISING PROSPECTS

[player_tooltip player_id='1124601' first='Rose' last='Kalscheur'] – 2029 guard, Edina

Kalscheur is a dynamic two-way guard with a blend of athleticism, composure, and basketball intelligence that is quite rare at her age. Long, lean, and fluid, Kalscheur runs the floor with ease and elevates well, using her length to consistently tip passes and disrupt offensive rhythm. She's a vocal team defender and a focused on-ball stopper. Rose can handle any tempo and plays with smooth pace, keeping her composure under pressure. Playing this summer for All-Iowa Attack's 8th grade Jr EYBL squad, Rose was a key contributor this winter for a young Edina team. In both uniforms she has impacted the game without forcing it. Whether scoring, defending, or simply moving the ball, Kalscheur plays hard, smart, and without fear. Her combination of tools, motor, and mindset makes her one of the more intriguing prospects in her class.

[player_tooltip player_id='1246846' first='Nivaya' last='Koles'] – 2029 guard, Lakeville North

Koles is a spark plug guard who plays with non-stop intensity and quickness. Though small, she's incredibly bouncy, quick-footed, and relentless. A classic on-court jitterbug, Koles pressures the ball, darts through passing lanes, and sets the tempo on both ends. The [program_tooltip program_id='712687' first='Minnesota' last='Fury'] 2029 Yellow athlete is a confident ball-handler and efficient distributor. Defensively, her footwork, anticipation, and hand speed allow her to lock opponents up without fouling too often. Nivaya earned All-Tournament Honorable Mention at the AAU State Championships. Coached by Ashley Ellis-Milan, this Fury group has a plethora of athletic little guards similar to Koles, including [player_tooltip player_id='939001' first='Gabby' last='McCarney'], Evelyn Bast, [player_tooltip player_id='1002988' first='Chloe' last='Reedy'], and Tate Huppert. With a varsity rotation role likely this winter, Koles is poised for a big jump, especially once a growth spurt kicks in.
