Past Meets Present: Indy Day Prospects (Free Report)

Happy Independence Day, Prep Girl Hoops Nation.
Sports and history have always been my passion.
I have taught US History at three different levels, coached three different sports, and yes, I contribute to three Prep Network Kansas websites.
As I continue to heal up from my second round of fighting against COVID, I thought I would add a little history with my scouting report today in honor of Independence Day.
Here is a look at six ranked Kansas basketball athletes. You will pick up on the theme.
Ulysses S. Grant, depending on how his work is interpreted, was either a military genius or a heartless leader who just knew he had more men. Bishop Miege’s Grant is a floor general with a high basketball IQ who understands that three points are greater than two. She has registered back-to-back double-digit scoring seasons. As a junior, she scored 16.7 points and averaged 3.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. She is ranked No. 5 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026.
The Mississippi River might be longer, wider, and more nostalgic, but in early American History, the Hudson River was an early icon. St. Thomas Aquinas has a Hudson who makes her waves on the Kansas Basketball Scene. Bear Mountain Bridge crosses over the Hudson, while Welsh plays like a hungry bear on both ends of the court. She is ranked No. 59 overall in the Kansas Class of 2026.

As a former military history instructor, there are so many famous “hills” in the military lexicon, including Bunker Hill, Culp’s Hill, San Juan Hill, and Hamburger Hill. Maize South’s Hill is a feisty guard I would want on my side in a battle. She can drain the three and plays solid defense. She is ranked No. 77 overall by Prep Girls Hoops Kansas. The Maverick guard recently received an offer from Fort Scott Community College.

There have been all kinds of Marshals in Kansas History that kept the streets safe in the cowtowns of Abilene, Wichita, and Dodge City. One of the best administrative generals in American History was General George C. Marshall, the namesake for the post-WWII Peace Plan known as the Marshall Plan. Mill Valley has a Marshall who can plan offensive attacks or defensive barriers on the court. She is quick, has great court vision, and scores in the half-court or in transition. She is ranked No. 19 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027.

If you have already read my Independence Day scouting report on Prep Dig Kansas this morning, then you know where I am heading with this athlete. Is there a more famous family in American History than the Kennedys? John, Jackie, and Bobby dominated the political scene in the ’60s. Out in western Kansas, a Kennedy is making a name for herself. She chipped in decent numbers in all categories for Greeley County last season as a sophomore, and her scoring role will continue to increase for the Jackrabbits moving forward. She is ranked No. 30 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027.

Okay, there are several people I could link Manhattan’s Busch with. The name is spelled differently, but we have had two “Bushes” in the White House. Augustus Busch revolutionized the liquor industry in the United States. Plus, everyone knows that one bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. Busch is a multi-sport athlete who can take over the game on the basketball and volleyball court. She recorded 351 kills last season for the Indian’s volleyball squad, and averaged 8.5 points and 2.5 steals per game for Manhattan. She is ranked No. 41 overall in the Kansas Class of 2027. Busch is also ranked No. 33 overall by Prep Dig Kansas.
