Western Kansas 2027 Girls Basketball Players on the Rise

Over the past year I've had the chance to see a number of Western Kansas athletes step onto the court and start to make a name for themselves. The Class of 2027 in particular has caught my attention, with several young players showing flashes of leadership, skill development, and competitiveness that set them apart. These six aren't just filling roles on their teams—they're carving out identities as impact players who could shape the future of basketball in this part of the state.    Korf is quickly carving out a role as one of Garden City's most reliable young guards. At 5'7″, she has the length to play both on and off the ball, and her varsity experience as a freshman already sets her apart. Korf's shot mechanics are smooth, and she has shown the confidence to create in the half-court. With continued growth, she could emerge as one of the top backcourt threats in Western Kansas.     Rosales is a steady combo guard who plays well beyond her size. She impressed me this summer at a tournament with her ability to thrive under pressure, composure with the ball and making the right reads. What stands out most is her ability to control tempo and keep teammates involved, giving Lakin a floor leader they can trust in big moments. She has the foundation to develop into a dangerous facilitator and scoring option.     Kennedy brings relentless energy to the floor. At 5'3″, she makes up for her size with quickness, defensive pressure, and a fearless approach to attacking gaps. Her basketball IQ is a clear strength—she anticipates plays on both ends and always seems to be around the ball. Kennedy is the type of guard who fuels momentum shifts and impacts winning in subtle but important ways.     Vaughn has the poise of a natural point guard. She sees the floor well and keeps her team organized, making her an essential piece of Colby's backcourt. Vaughn has shown steady progress in her ability to make reads off the dribble and finish with consistency. As her scoring confidence catches up with her playmaking, she could become a standout leader in the Colby program.     Powers is another Garden City guard making noise in the 2027 class. She brings quickness and a willingness to defend, setting the tone for her team on the perimeter. Powers has the tools to grow into a two-way impact player—one who can pressure opposing guards while also knocking down shots and attacking off the bounce. She's a name to watch as her offensive game expands.     Hammond offers versatility that makes her a valuable asset in multiple spots. She's comfortable handling the ball, but also strong enough to play inside when needed, but also is a threat from beyond the arc. That blend of guard-forward skills gives Liberal flexibility and allows Hammond to impact games in a variety of ways. With continued development in her shooting and defensive reads, she has the potential to be a matchup problem for opponents.
