We are now into the Southern Sectionals for Class 2A. With official IHSAA games beginning next week, I wanted to continue offering you a glimpse at what the 2025-26 season could hold with a preview of each of the state's 64 Sectionals once again. During the Spring of 2024, the IHSAA moved to a traditional enrollment-based format, realigning all classes with hard enrollment cutoff lines per class instead of taking nearly 400 schools and simply dividing them into four equal classes. With that said, each class has been more competitive, but the bigger classes have fewer teams than the smaller classes. This article serves as one of 64 previewing each Sectional in the state. In this specific article, I will take a look at Class 2A, Sectional #47. Below is a look at the teams in that Sectional, along with some general comments and analysis.
(SAG = Final 2024-2025 Multiclass Sagarin Rating (398 teams); SOS = Final 2024-2025 Strength of Schedule)

South Knox and North Knox have battled it out time, and time again, over the years, and despite both teams being weakened by graduation, they could once again be the top two teams in Sectional #47. South Knox is coming off of a Class 2A State Championship. The Spartans did graduate their top two players, however, they have talent in the pipeline and should remain highly competitive once again. 5-8 Junior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='756236' first='Kendal' last='Hill'] (13.7p, 5.8r, 7.4a, 3.8s) was fantastic as a Sophomore, but she suffered a knee injury in the Spring, so it might take a little time for her to find her groove once again this year. She is skilled, talented, and could become their leading scorer, however. 5-8 Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1275573' first='Grace' last='Detweiler'] (7.4p, 2.6r, 1.3a, 1.1s) is another talented backcourt member who possesses good length, athleticism, and she is a skilled shooter. I look for her to make a big jump and be a double-figure scorer this season. 5-9 Senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='1256497' first='Madison' last='Parrish'] (5.2p, 2.2r, 1.0a) is one of those kids who plays much bigger than she is. She is tough, athletic, and she's willing to do a lot of the "little things" that impact winning. 5-9 Junior wing Ellie Burke (2.9p, 2.2r) has some similarities to Parrish in that way, and both will fight for starting spots in 2025-2026. While 5-6 Junior guard Kalissa Lavely (1.6p), 5-5 Senior guard Sarah French (1.6p), 5-8 Junior wing Layla Thomas (1.0p), and 5-9 Sophomore wing Brynley Millspaugh (0.5p) didn't play major minutes last year, each played in 22 or more games and look to make a bigger mark this time around. Will South Knox be a favorite to repeat as State Champions? Maybe not, but they will be a highly competitive, ranked team to begin the year.

The bad news for North Knox is that of their 7-player rotation last year, three of them graduated. The good news is that the remaining four are all Seniors this year, so they have a great deal of experience, plus talented 5-8 guard [player_tooltip player_id='420275' first='Lexi' last='Primus'] (13.2p, 3.2r, 2.1a, 1.8s), their leading returning scorer and a Division I commit (Lipscomb University), is back and could push to be a 20 point per game weapon this year. She is smooth, athletic, and skilled around the perimeter, plus she can really defend. 5-8 Senior forward Jade Richter (7.1p, 5.4r, 1.5s) and 5-6 Senior guard Baylee McClure (7.1p, 2.7r, 1.7a, 1.8s) have seen starts in their past and look to solidify those roles this season, while 5-4 Senior guard Millee Leroy (3.9p, 1.5r, 1.3a, 1.4s) adds backcourt depth and can play on or off the ball. The Lady Warriors are rarely ever very tall, but they are always tough-nosed, hard-working, and scrappy. This year should be no different, and I would expect for them to once again approach 20 wins.

Additional Players to Keep an Eye On: Linton-Stockton: 5-6 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='495982' first='Addisyn' last='McKee'], 5-7 Sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id='928183' first='Jaycee' last='Archer']; Sullivan: 5-5 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='761171' first='Avari' last='Kelley'], 5-5 Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='449149' first='Katherine' last='Sarver'], and 5-7 Senior guard Allyson McKinney; West Vigo: 5-8 Senior wing [player_tooltip player_id='773833' first='Delaney' last='Marrs'] (9.5p, 5.1r in 2023-2024) and Junior forward Lydia Jones (8.1p, 5.9r, 1.0s)
