Southern Arizona Showcase Senior Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Southern Arizona Showcase hosted over 150 student athletes from over 40 different high schools across Southern Arizona. Players were placed on teams and played in 2-3 games throughout the day. The girls section was fun to watch as the talent was very competitive. Arguably the top two way guard at the event. Defensively Verrett was a menace. Wouldn't be surprised if she led the event (for boys and girls) in forced turnovers. She was able to score at will on the offensive end. Moved really well with and without the ball and was dangerous in transition. She showed the skill and strength to play just about every position on the floor. Very skilled in all areas. A sniper from deep that also used her footwork and dribble to get a nice middy up. Finished well at the rim. A nightmare on defense for her opponents. Elslager is passionate and plays every possession with everything she has. A hustle player that does the dirty work. Advances the ball well in transition. Shot well off the dribble. Very tough and plays through contact really well. Has a high level mid range and a nice floater. Rebounds extremely well and is a gifted shot blocker. Has great footwork and moves well around the floor. Sets strong screens and works the pick and roll well. Dominant defender that uses her versatility and strength to guard any position. Specialist at shot blocking and rebounding. Worked well in transition and took high quality shots. High level ball handler that can make a quick move and score at the basket. A confident and efficient perimeter shooter. One of the top on ball defenders at the event. Ceraya played very well in transition whether advancing the ball or getting open for the catch and shoot three. This is the second event ( other being Section 7 where she defended a Divsion 1 forward prospect very well) where I was impressed with her ability to do so. Can shoot the ball very well. Rodriguez game speaks for itself. She can flat out play. Barajas has been making leaps over the last year and now finds herself as a top two way prospect in Southern Arizona. A strong and vocal defender who is not afraid of the physical side of the game. Handled the ball well was patient and made plays all day. Off the catch she gets the ball off quickly and smoothly and knocks it down consistently. She also has the handling to get to her spot for a high percentage opportunity. She played well on the defensive side as well and made a lot of plays for her team. Encinas's game has improved tremendously over the last year.
