Casey not only applied "on the ball" pressure off the top, but she also seemed to enjoy it, and watching her read the floor and play the passing lane was refreshing because I just don't see enough of that in this era. She beat the offensive player to the spot, made them pick up their dribble, even forced turnovers, but she also understands positioning, which helped her outrebound taller players

Phoenix was among many #sizedontmatter guards who just brought heat on both ends of the court. Yes, she can man-up baseline to baseline, but she also has quick hands to pick pockets. She did a good job of doing what I love to see, playing the passing lane, and she attacked and scored off the dribble as well as saw the floor across the board

Friels is a "long and athletic" guard who immediately made her presence felt by intercepting a pass and handling the ball afterward, hey, that's also known as "playing the passing lane". She played solid defense in the set, recognized the switch, and showed good timing to alter shots. She also used a deceptive first step to attack the basket from multiple spots

Jordan has me taking a good look back when I used to call her "the baby" yet she immediately showed me her heart and desire. As a freshman, she was guarding one of the top seniors in Texas, who was telling Nadia she couldn't hold her. Her response was"Girl, you've made 2 baskets," and that DROPPED THE MIC. She immediately created havoc on defense, forced turnovers with steals, and showed the "catch and shoot" with a hand in her face

Walton also falls into that #sizedontmatter group and talk about changing the momentum, well, she came in and tied the ball up. She then dove on the floor for a loose ball, which deserves my #THROWBACK hashtag, but seeing her "on the ball" pressure in both the set as well as baseline to baseline was nice. She understands how to get hers "in the flow" and since she's also heady, she does a good job "playing within herself."
