I hadn't seen Aledo and was pleasantly surprised after catching them via LIVESTREAM at the tournament. This was my second look at Summer Creek, and when you have [player_tooltip player_id='929515' first='Kay'Len' last='Alexander'] setting the tone early to block shots and Kennedy Gouard coming in off the bench, and immediately dropping a jumper, the depth of this squad will be an issue for teams in part 3 of the season

Griffin had me use the search bar to see if I had seen her, and voila, see evaluation here. I love seeing players in different settings, and she left me somewhat speechless enough to click rewind. Her "catch and shoot" from deep looked good; she created her shot and saw the floor well, plus she used a deceptive first step to score off the dribble. Her "on the ball" pressure was solid, and she played the passing lane

Butler gave me a great last quarter in the semifinal game earlier, so seeing her show me I wasn't seeing a mirage in the 3rd place game was nice. I love things you can't teach, and her going AFTA everything off the rim spoke volumes. Yes, she BATTLES on both ends, her defense was solid, and she gave me the "hands and footwork" to score. Her timing was solid; she even dropped the "catch and shoot" from deep

Simpson had me drop #D1Lock on her the first time I saw her play, so seeing her continue to add more to her game over the years has been fun to watch. I emphasize the importance of "on the court" progression, and she's hard to handle. Her deceptive first step, her slight HEZ, or just blowing by the defender to score is one thing, but her pull-up jumper form mid to long-range is another. She does a good job defensively; her "on the ball" pressure helped create turnovers, so did her playing the passing lane, and timing to block shots was also a plus

Young is having a breakout season and is probably among the top long-ball shooters not only in the Houston area, but in the state. She went off early in the Kickoff Classic as her long ball helped change the momentum of the game early, but her "catch and shoot" looks even better, as does her court vision as she's "threading the needle" in traffic. She also applied baseline-to-baseline pressure, which helped create turnovers

Newsom is a force around the basket, either scoring, rebounding, or defending, and since she's "long and athletic" and elevates over defenders, her turnaround jumper was sweet. Her defense was solid, and so was her timing to block shots

Martin filled in many blanks as she hit big shots to help start runs, either using the pull-up jumper or the "stop and pop" yet her body control on her finishes was also nice, as was her defense and court vision
