Class 4A No. 13 Marion doesn't shy away from scheduling tough opponents in non-WaMaC action. The Wolves proved that on Saturday, traveling to Iowa City High for a matchup with the 5A seventh-ranked Little Hawks. They should benefit from the experience.

A threat from behind the arc and off of the bounce, Aarhus stresses defenses with a well-rounded skill set on offense. She's capable of running the show from the point off of good handle and keen vision. Equally effective off of the ball, Aarhus cuts hard and flows into opening areas. She doesn't require a lot of space to get off her shot and achieves lift on the jumper for clearance on attempts over longer opponents. Aarhus is a sound on-ball defender thanks to athleticism and lateral quickness.

Marion benefits from versatile guards that are interchangeable, allowing the Wolves to take advantage of mismatches wherever they occur on the perimeter. Eiben is a key cog in that machine. She stands out most for her handle and ability to initiate offense. She's quick off of the bounce and can get deep into the defense ahead of rotations. Eiben is strong for a sophomore. Adding that strength to her speed allows for her to defend well on the ball. While not among the tallest players on the court at a given time, she has a desire and knack for rebounding.

Griffin is a great example of being a position-less basketball player. PGH lists her as a combo guard and small forward, but she also can operate as a power forward and center. Griffin is strong with a tool box full of skills. If a smaller player tries checking her, she'll set up on the low block and back in for easy buckets at the rim. Griffin will drag taller players out onto the floor. There, she can face up with a jumper that stretches behind the arc or dribble penetrate with a handle like a guard. In other words, Griffin is a matchup problem. Here diverse skills also allow for defending multiple positions.

Another versatile performer that helps the Wolves take advantages of mismatches, Morris plays well off of her teammates. The sophomore likes exposing defenses slow to respect her range. She does so by being shot ready. It's catch and shoot without wasted movement that allows opponents to react. The release is pure with arc and rotation leading to a soft touch. Morris can get downhill fast if there's an advantage to be had off of the bounce and is strong off the dribble.

Gassama might best be described as a stretch four. The sophomore possesses the frame and length to be effective in the paint but also the skill and shooting range to operate behind the arc. The broad-based skill set makes Gassama a matchup problem for opponents. Her quickness, agility and physicality allow her to defend multiple positions. Gassama is a presence on the backboards and also displays a knack for finding open teammates for baskets.
