Impressive Tandems at Maryland's Private vs Public Showcase

<p>Another outstanding showcase sponsored by 695hoops provided young ladies with an opportunity to show their skills. The annual Private vs. Public competition once again highlighted the depth of basketball talent across the state of Maryland. Hosted on the beautiful campus of McDonogh, the event featured twenty-four games played across three courts, with participants representing every level of competition.</p>   <p>The overall level of play can't be captured in a single article and is better suited for a series of features. To start, this article will focus on several impressive 1–2 punch tandems that stood out throughout the showcase.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Washington: Charles Town, WV</h2>   <p>Natalia and Sheridan are young but can compete on the highest level. </p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Sophomore Natalia plays with excellent tempo and a natural feel for the game. She thrives in the open court, consistently delivering timely lead passes in transition. In the half-court setting, she has the ability to collapse the defense to create scoring opportunities for herself or deliver on-time passes that lead to easy baskets for her teammates. On the defensive end, she stays engaged on every possession and can create havoc in the backcourt with her activity and awareness.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Sheridan shows significant upside as a freshman competing at the varsity level and has proven she can hold her own. She fits the prototype of a modern center, capable of scoring on the block while also stretching the floor and facing up defenders. In transition, she runs the lane well, has reliable hands to secure lead passes, and finishes effectively at the rim. Defensively, her athleticism allows her to guard multiple positions in the open court.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Pikesville: Pikesville, MD</h2>   <p>Two smooth senior guards ready for the college level.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Mariah's game appears effortless, as she remains composed at all times. Her ability to handle the ball in the backcourt, effectively run the offense, and score at multiple levels makes her difficult to defend. She put that skill set on full display early, opening the game with eight quick points by knocking down two three-pointers and finishing at the rim within the first three minutes.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Nyjae plays with a fearless approach and strong confidence on the court. Although listed as a shooting guard, her skill set projects well to the point guard position at the next level. She can effectively run the offense by placing teammates in scoring positions while also having the ability to get to the rim herself. Her strength is in the mid-range game, where her stop-and-pop ability is particularly effective. Defensively, she is physical and capable of guarding positions one through three for the full length of the court.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">St. Mary's: Annapolis, MD</h2>   <p>ECU and Rhode Island commits continue to dominate the IAAM.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Bailey's relentless effort consistently wears down opponents, as she is capable of scoring at all three levels. She is a high-IQ player who reads the defense well. If defenders give her space or go under screens, she is comfortable pulling up for the shot. When pressured, she is strong enough to create separation, get downhill, and finish through contact at the rim.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Alexandra is the type of controlled, emotional player every team needs. She has one of the quickest releases in recent memory and requires very little space to get her shot off. Consistent beyond the arc, she has the ability to take over a game when needed. Her size and skill set stand out, as she can defend any position on the court while also effectively running the offense.</p>
