Being a mismatch nightmare is such a blessing. These types of prospects make other teams switch their strategy and make them play in a certain way to try to contain the dominant hooper. In this article we talk about five of those types of players competing at the Wing/Forward position throughout the state.

Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!

You can't make an article about mismatching Forwards within Iowa and not mention [player_tooltip player_id='837358' first='Natalie' last='Ramsey'] of Iowa City - Liberty High School. Ramsey is nightmare to guard for any team that attempts to do so. She stands at over 6'0, she is very athletic for her position, she has length to pair with her height, and she understands how to use her length to her advantage in any/every situation. Offensively, if someone smaller is tasked with defending her, she will simply post them up and score over the top with either hand on either side of the bucket. If someone bigger is told to defend her, she can hit them with her patented midrange jumper or she can take them off the dribble all the way to the bucket. She is also not afraid to let it go from three when those opportunities present themselves. Defensively, the best part is that Ramsey can move around to stick in front of multiple positions. She can size up against bigger or stick with smaller, that might be a bit faster. All in all, if Ramsey is determined enough, she should see the floor as a Freshman at South Dakota but for now I'm sure she is only worried about finishing off the season on a high note as we move into the month of February.

When you break out the film and start making a scouting report for Alta-Aurelia High School, you notice that [player_tooltip player_id='1213804' first='Hayden' last='Berkland'] pops off the page at the SF position for this group with her size, effort, and athletic ability. Berkland is her team's second leading scorer (9.3 PPG), their top rebounding threat with 10.8, and their top assisting leading with just under 3 APG. It's not too often that you see a 5'11 SF leading their team in APG while also showing up in big was on the glass and on the offensive end as one of their top finishers. When you try to matchup against that as an opposing program, it can become tough if you don't have someone with a combination of size and speed. Alta-Aurelia is currently sitting around .500 on their season but they just recorded an impressive win over Sioux Center, 61-57. They proved in this game that they can compete against anyone on any given night so I can't wait see what happens come Playoff time.

[player_tooltip player_id='1268354' first='Judy' last='Bokhary'] is proving this Winter as a Sophomore that she competes more as a CG that anything else with her guard-like abilities on and off of the basketball. Bokhary is the type that can beat her defender off the dribble for easy buckets, she is very good at passing in transition in the full court to her open teammates, she has a solid bag offensively to pull out when in need, and she defends multiple positions at a steady rate. Bokhary shows up in little ways each time she competes. She usually is the one making a play and getting the crowd/her team fired up with a ton of positive energy. Something you love to see from an outside perspective. Bokhary has demonstrated that she is a difficult guard overall. She has lengthier arms than most at 5'10 and that helps her with finishing over smaller defenders, creating tips/deflections defensively, and her game as a whole in reality. Roosevelt has some play-makers. Now we just need to see how they will be used moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id='782509' first='Kennedy' last='Brant'] has been a top-notch scoring and rebounding force whenever she laces up her kicks for Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School. Brant is a PF/SF, that comes in right 6'0. I like to say that she is more of a SF because of her guard-like adaptability but I understand how in some systems she would be considered purely a PF with her production under the basket. When GBR has success this season, a main reason for that is the play of Brant. She is super tough to contain in small spaces and she works relentlessly in pursuit of the basketball. This is another group that we are hoping to see making a splash in few weeks during their post-season run. If they move diligently and play their hand correct, they should win some ball games.

If you are purely looking for a prospect with height over 6'1, length, a soft touch on the ball, and some natural quickness - look no further than [player_tooltip player_id='1091299' first='Ella' last='Subbert'] of ADM High School. Subbert is a player with some D1 interest at this time and for good reason. She makes smart plays and shows a lot of effort as a SF/CG. As she has gotten older and more experienced, she has built on her game with a steady handle and efficient shooting ability within 15FT of the bucket. Lately she has been the key to a lot of ADM's overall success over the last 1.5 years and that isn't going to change anytime soon. This Tigers group has a 10-6 record moving into February. They aren't in a bad spot as we look ahead to the Playoffs but they are going to have to win some games if they want to make it to DSM and the State Tournament.
