Typically in January, the focus of many a South Carolinian is on what is happening inside the state's numerous basketball gyms. Lately this month, however, the focus has shifted away from the hardwood to what is happening outside.

The winter storm that dumped freezing rain, sleet, ice and even a bit of snow on portions of the Palmetto State has had a domino effect on South Carolina's basketball schedule with many games being rescheduled.

Eventually, things will be back to normal and the schedule for the entire state will resume as teams look to make their final pushes prior to tournament time happening in February. January has not only been defined by great basketball but by several notables reaching career milestones. Without further ado, here are a few more of those names.

Rush's play has been a signature reason why Camden has put together a banner 2025-26 campaign. On Jan. 13, the Bulldogs traveled to York for its third region contest of the season. Camden defeated the Cougars in a rout with the final score being 68-10. Rush was part of that dominant performance with 10 points and six rebounds in addition to reaching the 1,000-point plateau for her career. Rush has averaged 11.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game this season. Coach Lewis Mungo's Bulldogs have lost only once this season – to region foe South Pointe on Jan. 7. Camden was ranked fourth in the most recent 4A coaches' poll.

Back in December, McLean made news when she announced she would commit to Kennesaw State for track and field. As evidenced by McLean reaching the 1,000-point mark for her basketball career, she has made her presence felt in both athletic disciplines. She has competed in 13 games this season and has averaged 15.3 points, six rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks per contest. McLean has also been getting closer to the 1,000-rebound distinction as well. McLean's Panthers have an overall record of 12-4 as of this writing and a region mark of 4-1, trailing only North Myrtle Beach in the Region 6-AAAAA standings. Carolina Forest earned a ranking of eighth in the most recent 5A Division 1 coaches' poll.

Speaking of 5A Division 2 North Myrtle Beach, the Chiefs have been one of the stories of Palmetto State high school hoops this season. Vereen has contributed greatly to its undefeated record and its top ranking in the most recent 5A Division 2 coaches' poll. Vereen reached 1,000 points for her career recently when the Chiefs traveled to Myrtle Beach. North Myrtle Beach kept its perfect record going with a 43-20 victory over the Seahawks. The junior has been the Chiefs' leading scorer this season averaging 16.8 points, 6.3 steals, 4.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. During the summer, Vereen landed an offer from Division I East Carolina.

Brown joining the Eagles' nest at 4A Beaufort has paid dividends as evidenced by the Eagles' 14-4 record as of this writing. On Jan. 20, she became a member of the 1,000-point club as she helped Beaufort achieve victory over her former team – Bluffton – in a 76-51 decision. Brown put together an 18-point, eight-steal performance against the Bobcats. She has played in 15 games this season for the Eagles and is second on the team in scoring. Brown is averaging 14.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest. Brown has also played soccer throughout her athletic career and has played basketball at the varsity level since she was a seventh grader.

When the only blemishes on a team's schedule are against 1A Military Magnet, 4A schools Camden and North Augusta and 5A Division 2 Goose Creek, said team is doing something correct. Coach Brandon Wallace's 4A Gray Collegiate assembling was on the winning end of the transfer portal this past offseason as evidenced by Britt now sporting a War Eagles uniform. On Jan. 19, Gray Collegiate was on the winning end of a 64-51 decision against defending 2A champion Andrew Jackson. Britt was one rebound shy of a double-double with 19 points and nine boards along with reaching the 1,000-point plateau. Britt joined War Eagles greats Maliyiah Mason and Kadence Walker-Lee as the only Gray Collegiate players to achieve the feat. If Britt gives the same – or even better – production for Gray Collegiate next season then the War Eagles' transition to 5A should be a smooth one.

A year after winning last season's 3A Lower State championship, Dillon is back for more in 2025-26. On Jan. 23, the Wildcats hosted Georgetown. Dillon earned a 58-29 victory and McKinnon reached the lofty 1,000-point plateau. The star junior point guard has played in all 18 games this season for a Wildcats team that has only dropped one contest against a Palmetto State team (4A Camden on Dec. 3). McKinnon is second on the team in scoring, averaging 18.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. The Wildcats were ranked second in the most recent 3A coaches' poll only behind defending champion Walhalla.

At the beginning of January, Pullman also joined the 1,000-point club. Pullman achieved the feat the month following her announcement of her collegiate commitment to UNC-Pembroke. The 2025-26 campaign may have featured a plethora of struggles for the Wildcats as a team, but Pullman is still putting together a stellar senior campaign. She has played in all 19 contests this season for 5A Division 2 Woodmont and has averaged 18.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest in addition to 1.1 blocks. She leads the Wildcats in the points and rebounds categories and is second in rejections for Woodmont in 2025-26.
