POLL: Who Should Be MVP In Class 1A??
In this article:
With the IHSAA Girls' Basketball State Finals taking place this weekend, I wanted to ponder the question...who should be the MVP for the entirety of the 2025-2026 season (not just the State Finals or State Tournament) in each of the four classifications?? In this article, I have identified four young ladies in Class 1A who I thought would be front-runners. They do NOT have to be Seniors, they can come from any graduating class, and I tried to make sure to add at least one from each of Saturday's participants in the State Finals, if I felt like they would be close to the Top 4 (or in the Top 4) in Class 1A. Sometimes a huge Saturday can push them over the top!! I have also posted a poll on our "X" account, @PGHIndiana, if you are interested in placing a vote!! Votes will be accepted for 24 hours from the time this article and the poll post online. Thanks for your participation!!

Obviously, we've mentioned Grace a lot over the past couple of weeks, and rightfully so. She is a tremendous player, especially for Class 1A. On the season, however, she has helped lead Fremont to their best season in girls' basketball history, including a 28-2 record before Saturday's game, plus their first Semi-State title and State Finals appearance. The explosive guard is averaging 20.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 3.1 steals per game. If she can continue to make her mark against Borden in the Class 1A game, she should be a frontrunner for the Class 1A MVP award.

As we've mentioned over the last couple of weeks, Riley has really stepped up her offensive output this season in the wake of a teammate's injury. Riley is every bit of 6-feet tall, she is extremely long, fluidly athletic, and smooth. She can handle it, she has good vision, and she has now proven she can score it. In leading Borden to back-to-back State Finals appearances this season, she has averaged 16.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game, affecting nearly 27 points per game between her buckets and dimes. Additionally, she is a nice defender with her length, size, and athleticism.

Laniah has been nothing short of spectacular for the duration of her career, scoring 2100 points, pulling down 758 rebounds as a guard, handing out 255 assists, and collecting 345 steals. Additionally, she helped Marquette Catholic to an overall record of 84-23 with three Sectional titles, two Regional titles, and a Semi-State title. As for this season, the Blazers were 23-4 and Sectional Champs, plus Laniah averaged 20.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 3.4 steals per game. The 20.5 points were a single season high. She is also a strong, athletic, and effective defender.

Hannah might be a longshot compared to the other three players on this list and the seasons they've had, but consider this...Hannah averaged 18.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 4.3 steals per game for a very good Eagle team who won their first Sectional and Regional title in just their fourth year as an IHSAA member school. Hannah is a strong, physical wing guard, she plays with a great motor, and she has a real savvy and great understanding of the game. When I was able to see her last June at the scholastic live period, she was fun to watch and had sort of an "old school" game.
