FHSAA State Championship: The Sophomore Takeover

In this year's FHSAA State Championship finals across the various classes, one this clear-the sophomore class swill be represented. In fact, seven of the top eleven players in our 2028 rankings will be in the building playing for a State championship. These seven prospects are elite and are looking to lead their teams. From explosive scoring guards to versatile play makers, this group is confident and poised. Averaging 15.5 points per game while shooting 51% from the field, Pinnock has been a offensive presence throughout the season. She has converted 142 field goals on 279 attempts across 24 games. Pinnock is smooth and a very efficient scorer. She can shoot from behind the arc, but she does a lot of her damage in the paint and at the rim. She excels in transition going coast to coast and she can also set up teammates for easy baskets.     [player_tooltip player_id='880384' first='Jada' last='Clardy'] (cover photo) plays with creativity and instinct, reading defenses and finding ways to get into the heart of the defense generate scoring opportunities for herself. She has an explosive step and great elevation on her shots. While offense is clearly the most exciting part of her game, she is also a dynamic defender with great anticipation and basketball IQ. Clardy's scoring instincts, perimeter shooting, and play-making make her one of the more dangerous offensive guards in Florida's 2028 class.     [player_tooltip player_id='1092442' first='London' last='Thomas'] has been one of the most productive and efficient guards among the state finals participants. Thomas averages 18.5 points per game while shooting 50% (82 made field goals on 163 attempts) from the field. Thomas is an aggressive scorer who looks to get to the rim and score. She has the ability to score with either hand and can score through physical contact. An interesting observation - Thomas can shoot the three, but she doesn't rely on the long range shot for boosting her scoring average. She made less than 30 for the season. She is poised for a big performance on the big stage and looking to represent herself, her team, and possibly the toughest class in the arena.       [player_tooltip player_id='1122373' first='Ashlynn' last='Day'] has been one of the most efficient high-volume scorers among the state finals participants. Averaging 22.7 points per game while shooting 58% from the field, Day combines strong scoring production with efficiency. With 216 made field goals on 371 attempts across 26 games, she consistently provided her team with a primary scoring option. Day's game is built on attacking the basket and finishing in transition. She also gets to the free-throw line for scoring opportunities. Day is one of the highest scorers in the building and she is looking to score the ball and introduce herself to the basketball scene.     [player_tooltip player_id='219786' first='Kennedy' last='Deal'] consistently impacts the game through her versatility and ability to fill multiple roles. She brings strong defensive skills and has the ability to defend the post and on the perimeter, which allows her team to switch match-ups. Offensively, Deal is capable of contributing from multiple areas of the floor. She can knock down shots on the perimeter, attack the rim off the dribble, and finish when opportunities present themselves, giving her the ability to score at all three levels. With good size and a willingness to rebound, she also helps on the glass and provides additional       [player_tooltip player_id='1229156' first='Shaw' last='Summer'] has been one of the most productive all-around players on the floor, averaging 18 points per game while scoring 504 total points on the season. She also stretches the defense from the perimeter with 23 three-pointers, giving her team a reliable outside scoring option.  Summer's impact extends well beyond scoring. She is a strong presence on the glass, averaging 9.4 rebounds per game, which is impressive for a perimeter player. This speaks to her toughness and activity level. Defensively, she brings constant pressure, averaging 3 steals per game and showing the ability to disrupt passing lanes and create transition opportunities.     [player_tooltip player_id='727591' first='Jaiden' last='Peterson'] is a poised young guard who plays with confidence and control when the ball is in her hands. Her fist objective is scoring and handling primary ball-handling duties, demonstrating strong court awareness and the ability to keep her team organized. Peterson's comfort with the ball allows her to dictate tempo and make smart decisions as a facilitator.    She gets up and down the court quickly. Offensively, Peterson has the ability create scoring opportunities, both for herself and her teammates. She can attack the defense off the dribble, use her quickness to get into the lane, and make plays when defenses collapse. Her skill set as a ball handler and play-maker allows her to be effective in transition as well as in half-court situations. She is also fun to watch in the full-court press where she spends a lot of time getting steals and buckets.
