GHSA State Championship Week Top Performers: Guards

Harpring set the GHSA All-Time Scoring Record with 3,435 points as she closed her career with a second state title, netting 40 points, 16 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals in a 58-50 win over Kell. The Tar Heel shot 15-25 from the field and 10-19 from the foul line. Harpring earned Georgia's Gatorade Player of the Year honors for a second straight year averaging 29.5 points, 11.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 4.2 steals and also claimed the Naismith Award, given to the top player in the country.     The recent Kennesaw State decommit came out on fire with 14 of Grayson's 19 first quarter points. The electric guard got to her spots using her elusive speed and dropped in buckets from all over. Rudolph is slinky with the ball, a wiry attacker agile when slicing through the defense. She scored from all levels against North Paulding shooting 11-23 from the field, 2-5 from deep and 8-10 from the foul line to finish with 32 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 7 steals. Rudolph's takeover capabilities and her two-way impact as a savvy defender gives her serious upside at the next level. Don't be surprised to see her recruitment catch fire and level up from Kennesaw State.     After a nightmarish start to her state championship debut last year, Ledford was on point from the opening tip leading the Indians to a state title, beating Hardaway 51-48 in a rematch of last year. Ledford shot 7-16 from the field including 3-8 from deep and 2-4 from the line to compile 19 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals. Known for her toughness in the paint, Callan was able to spread the floor and attack Hardaway efficiently from the perimeter as she identified mismatches. She thrived in transition on downhill drives and was opportunistic defensively converting turnovers into points. Callan is a hot commodity among D-III programs with D-II, NAIA and JUCO schools also offering.     The star-power of KK Hamby shined on the big stage, shooting 7-12 and 2-5 from distance as she poured in a game-high 20 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals to pace Creekview. The crafty sharpshooter excels at getting free along the perimeter using stepbacks and sudden change of pace to get defenders off balance. She's a sturdy defender and a great decision maker with the vision to pass teammates open. Brenau is getting a program changer.     Before disqualification, Morghan was starting to score at will with her left hand. Reckley plays with flow and bounce as she looks to change speeds with start-and-stop moves. She got whistled for a few carries, but when she was able to control the ball, there wasn't much defenders could do to stay in front of her. She elevates extremely well when finishing and is comfortable playing through contact. Morghan hit some tough mid-range jumpers, one along the left baseline on a turnaround which looked like it could be dagger. Reckley tallied 29 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals on 13-26 shooting. I was impressed with her willingness as a passer. Reckley sees the floor well and trusts her teammates when distributing. While she took 26 shots, it didn't feel like too many were forced.     Hebron Christian lacked outside shooting in their upset loss to Holy Innocents' last year in the state title, shooting 0-19 from deep. Huckaby remedied that by shooting 3-7 from distance, coming off the bench to pile in a game-high 14 points to help the Lions win state.
