Mia has one of the better resumes in the state, but has somehow not received more recognition for just how good the first three years of her high school career have been. Huckaby went over the 1,000 point scoring mark as a junior, while also helping Hebron win a state championship. This summer she represented Puerto Rico in the FIBA U18 Women’s America, including one game where Mia scored 15 points in under 15 minutes against the Dominican Republic. With the numerous departures at Hebron, she should have the time on the court along with the opportunity to prove to college coaches that she can be a meaningful contributor on the next level. There is no question for me, or her previous head coach, Jan Azar, that Huckaby will be a great addition to whatever school she chooses.

Mia recently rejoined her Hebron teammates after a long trip to Puerto Rico for training camp with the national team before playing in the FIBA U18 AmeriCup championships. Huckaby’s experience with the PR national team was highlighted with a clutch, late three that helped her team beat the Dominican Republic 56-55. She came into the games I saw as a super sub averaging 11 points while helping Hebron to a 4-0 record and a championship in their division. Against East Laurens and Langston Hughes Huckaby was lethal from three and getting to the rim utilizing her quickness off the dribble. She was the game leading scorer against Langston Hughes finishing with 17 points including 3 three point shots made as well as 4 two point shots made while giving her team a huge boost offensively. Not only did Mia score the ball, but was very good distributing the ball once she got past the first defender on the break and in the half court. with here high level of skill, athleticism, and intelligence. Mia definitely has the ability to play the position on the next level and that versatility should bring more interest and potentially offers from college coaches sooner rather than later.

Huckaby is a true three-level scoring threat capable of impacting the game from anywhere on the floor. Mia comfortably scores from beyond the arc, in the mid-range and at the rim while maintaining strong balance between facilitating and hunting her own offense. She embraces running the team while still remaining aggressive as a scorer.

In transition, Huckaby slices through defenses with crafty eurosteps and body control finishing around defenders. She’s comfortable playing either guard spot and consistently makes quality drive-and-kick reads once defenses collapse. Defensively, Mia competes with grit and emotion, bringing visible toughness to both ends of the floor. Her name is beginning to pop up on more and more college recruiting boards.

Huckaby put together one of the most complete scoring performances of the entire camp. A true three-level threat, she filled it up from beyond the arc, in the mid-range, and at the rim. What separates Mia is her mentality—she embraces the role of running the offense while still hunting her own scoring opportunities efficiently. She sliced through defenses in transition with eurosteps, consistently got into the paint, and showcased touch with her floater. On top of that, she created for others with drive-and-kick reads and showed comfort playing both on and off the ball. Her defensive effort matched her offensive production, as she moved well laterally, competed for 50/50 balls, and crashed the offensive glass. A true lead-dog performance.

Hebron Christian lacked outside shooting in their upset loss to Holy Innocents’ last year in the state title, shooting 0-19 from deep. Huckaby remedied that by shooting 3-7 from distance, coming off the bench to pile in a game-high 14 points to help the Lions win state.

Back in Georgia where she shined as a freshman at Mill Creek, Huckaby is now at Hebron Christian after a sabbatical at IMG Academy. A high-IQ guard capable of playing either backcourt spot, she’s a poised playmaker who also brings a smooth scoring touch.

Started her career at Mill Creek as one of the most impactful freshmen in the state. Transferred to IMG Academy last season and is now back in Georgia at Hebron. Heady guard can play either position in the backcourt. Playmaker has a nice scoring touch as well.
