Intriguing Prospects to See During the May Live Period

The second live period of the year begins later this week, and there will be events all over the country where our fellow Wisconsinites will play and be seen by coaches at the next level. Over the next few days, we will look at some players who could intrigue coaches at the next level and put themselves on those coaches' radars. Let's highlight some Wisconsin natives who could impress coaches this coming weekend.    There is always room for players who can help teams win on the margins, and that's what Jackson excels at. The Pius XI forward is a physical player who can use her length to defend around the basket and help deflect passes. She also moves her feet well enough on the perimeter to switch, especially whenever she plays with a shot clock in the future. She also excels at generating second-chance points by crashing the glass. She has earned double-doubles and may rarely have plays run for her. She's a hard worker who will help elevate any lineup.     The Madison native is a player who has excelled at doing all the little things to win games. Thompson is capable of doing a little of everything and fitting into any role her team needs her to play to win games. She has improved offensively, but what she brings on the defensive end will help her get on the floor. She's a versatile defender who can switch and make plays in the paint or on the perimeter defensively.     The Waunakee wing is a player who has improved in each of her first few seasons at the high school level. Van Wie has gained confidence, will get to her spots, and is a threat on that end of the floor. However, what separates her from everyone in her class is the fire and energy she brings to the floor. The passion she plays with is palpable, and she plays desperately. She competes defensivley and seems like a perfectionist. She takes pride in her defense and will make anyone work for whatever they get offensively.     Few players I've ever seen have improved as much as Pudelko did from her first to second high school seasons. She's physically stronger, and noticeably so, which tells me how much she's put in behind the scenes to be an impact player at the high school level. Pudelko also shot the ball at an efficent clip and was a better rebounder than I ever expected her to be. She is a player who could continue taking more steps forward over the next year and will be a player to know for college coaches.
