Some camp events only have a few teams that take part. Typically, those are events taking place at high schools that may not have the number of gyms that a college could. Then there are those even at high schools that welcome so many teams it may rival those of a few colleges.

One of those took place at 5A Chapin HS. The Chapin Shootout took place over a span of two days. Ten games took place during the first day followed by 12 on the second. A number of colleges also committed to be at the two-day gathering.

The lone Georgia team on the schedule for Chapin Shootout Friday ensured it got its money's worth from its eastbound trek from the CSRA. The Red Devils of 1A Division 2 Lincoln County earned a hard-fought victory over one of South Carolina's premier 4A squads in A.C. Flora in large part because the Falcons defense had no answers for Norman. She concluded the contest with 20 points. Norman stands at 5-foot-11 but has a height advantage over her peers in the backcourt considering she plays either at point or at the two. Outhustling her competition, corralling her own rebounds and making transition plays are other positives to Norman's well-developed game.

An all-Lexington County clash early in the afternoon between two premier 5A teams accounted for one of the more entertaining contests of the day. Gray Collegiate got the better of its intra-county get-together with Lexington and Britt concluded the contest with 17 points. When noticing Britt's height, one can see why she provides such a formidable interior presence, but she has the floor-running abilities and the ball-handling capabilities of a guard. Britt's ability to make tough shots is likely another reason why she recently netted an in-state offer courtesy of Francis Marion. Britt played in all 28 of the War Eagles' contests last season and averaged a double-double of 19 points and 10.5 rebounds plus 1.7 steals per game.

The day's play led off with 4A A.C. Flora taking on one of the premier 4A assemblings from the SCISA ranks in Ben Lippen. Gray understands that as potent a playmaker as she that she will attract lots of attention from defenses. This makes her ability to know when to attack and when to pass all the more important. When she has the ball in her hands, Gray is difficult to contain considering her ability to find attacking lanes to the basket. She is now the centerpiece of all things A.C. Flora and her play indicates that transition to a new-look Falcons team will be a smooth one in Forest Acres. She had 15 points in the win over Ben Lippen.

Bobseine would compete in 27 matchups last season for a Lexington assembling that were 5A Division 1 Lower State finalists last season. Coaches expect two guards to be confident in their ability to drain 3-point attempts and Bobseine can certainly place crooked numbers on the scoreboard from deep. That prowess from distance can throw defenders off guard when they decide to attack the basket and possibly draw contact. Bobseine is a multi-sport athlete who has also competed as a distance runner in addition to her hoops accomplishments and will be looking to close out her career as a Wildcat with an exclamation point.

Keeping Rush in check is key for any team looking to score a victory over one of the toughest 3A outs in the state in Camden. That task was not accomplished by 2A Blacksburg as Rush put together a 12-point performance for a Bulldogs victory. Rush is one of the premier frontcourt players in the state as she thrives as a four forward. If she has the ball in close proximity to the rim – especially off an offensive rebound – it is virtually an automatic two points. Rush recently picked up an offer from Erskine in addition to the one she already had from Lander.

When looking at rising seniors that are more than poised to finish their high school careers with a flourish, Freeman has to come into mind. She maintains a high degree of activity from the ball and is willing to be involved in plays where she sets screens – a characteristic more commonly found in forwards and centers. Freeman does not shy away from contact, can handle the ball with her left hand and does the big and little things that can get her team in the win column. She played in 26 of Gray Collegiate's 28 contests last season and averaged 9.9 points, 3.6 steals, 3.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game.

Friday's opening contest between SCISA 4A Ben Lippen and 4A public A.C. Flora featured two of the premier 2030s in the Palmetto State. Summons is one of those rising freshmen poised to continue Ben Lippen's ascent up the ranks. Height is the one thing that cannot be coached and she brings plenty of it at an even six feet. Summons understands how to make the tough shots and also is an effective rebounder. She is listed on Ben Lippen's roster as both a forward and a guard – an indication of her versatility. Her freshman season will be her third playing at the varsity level and she averaged 9.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals per contest last season. Summons scored 11 points and eight points against A.C. Flora and Chapin, respectively.

Because of a last-minute scheduling change, Ben Lippen played in the first two contests of Friday's Chapin Shootout. The second contest went better than the first as Whalen led her Falcons to a victory over the host Eagles. Whalen scored 10 points en route to that victory. Even though youth is the centerpiece of the current Ben Lippen group, Whalen provides a veteran presence as a rising senior – and has the veteran instincts to go alongside her 2027 status. Whalen can give a team productive minutes as either a guard or small forward and is very gifted as a rebounder.

McEntire has more experience than the average rising sophomore considering she first played at the varsity level as an eighth grader. An eleventh-hour scheduling shuffle meant McEntire's SCISA 4A Falcons would play the first pair of contests of Chapin Shootout Friday. She would score 10 points in a matchup with 4A A.C. Flora and another nine in a victory over host 5A Chapin. McEntire would play in 30 contests last season for a Ben Lippen team that advanced to the semifinals of last season's SCISA 4A tournament.
Even with coach Molly Goodrich's Lexington bunch having graduated a quintet of seniors from last season's team that reached the 5A Division 1 Lower State finals, the Wildcats resembled that team from last season against Georgia 1A Division 2 Lincoln County. Mills spearheaded a dominant performance that overwhelmed the Red Devils with 10 points. One can expect for Mills to be one of two featured bigs for the 2026-27 version of Lexington. At an even six feet, one can expect for Mills to convert on a high number of high-percentage shots and grab a large amount of rebounds. Mills was one of six from the class of 2027 on last season's Wildcats squad and played in 23 games last season for Lexington.
