[player_tooltip player_id='1345806' first='Jayla' last='Strong'] is a name we haven't heard about too much over the last few seasons at the Varsity level throughout Iowa. Last Winter when her team made it to State she finally got the recognition she deserves as being a lightning quick SG, who can produce in the bunches when she is feeling herself. Strong has stood out this weekend for her Missouri Phenom Iowa 17U program out in Las Vegas. It seems that her game has been extremely calculated every time she has taken the floor the last few days and her stat lines can prove it. She led her team in scoring one night while shooting a strong field goal percentage, she is getting others involved when the opportunities present themselves, and she hasn't been a slouch on defense either. She has been locking up her individual matchup with confidence and that's been fun to watch. All in all, I expect Strong to end this AAU season on a high note. After that, if she can take that momentum into the high school season, who knows how well she could do before her high school career comes to a close at the beginning of 2027.

Do you really think [player_tooltip player_id='920715' first='Emily' last='Tanny'] is going to hit a game winning, contested, step back three pointer in OT in EYBL league play and we aren't going to talk about it?! If so, you are sadly mistaken! Tanny stepped up to hit a major shot on Saturday afternoon in OT as time expired to give her EYBL team another W. She caught the ball elbow extended on the right side of the floor, drove left into a step back, all while being contested with some impressive defense, and it was nothing but net. As you can imagine it's really hard to compete against these AIA EYBL teams at the end of a shot clock or game clock. 1 through 5 can hit shots from deep on each of their teams so it's tough but in this situation Tanny just took over. She said give me the ball and move. Which is something you LOVE to see out of a competitor only moving into her Sophomore season of high school ball.

Worley took over early on in this weekend, doing her thing by getting everyone else around her involved on both ends of the floor. In Vegas she has put together some impressive stat lines to start of her month of July. Like I said, she is creating and getting others involved around her at a steady rate while being a scoring threat herself from all offensive levels. If the defense backs off, she will hit a jumper. If they overplay too much, she can get to the middle of the lane for a floater or midrange pull up. If both of those options won't work, than she will get all the way to the bucket for a simple finish. It's really been a pick your poison situation with Worley for defenders the last two days and I'd assume we are going to see that today for Day 3 as well.

After receiving her first D1 offer this past week from Drake, [player_tooltip player_id='1238790' first='Adrienne' last='Sears'] has been competing with a chip on her shoulder in Las Vegas with her AIA EYBL program. Being on this specific team it can be hard being a standout. This group is one that is LOADED at every position. So much so that if you told me each of their players will end up competing at the D1 level one day in college, I would 100% whole-heartedly believe you and that's not something we have ever really seen from a younger group at this age level out of Iowa but they. can. GO! Sears is a selfless PG/CG, who loves getting others involved around her. She plays more as a 2 or 3 because she isn't a pure 1 but that doesn't change the fact that she could start as a Varsity PG on most teams across the state of Iowa this Winter if she wanted too. She just happens to play at one of the most prestigious schools in the DSM area and that's why she is trusting the process within that program.

Laney Johnson of Solon High School and Lady Martin Bros Select 17U GUAA is making a name for herself this weekend on the road with her LMB's team. Johnson is lighting the nets on fire with her long distance shooting ability. The last few seasons we haven't really seen Johnson put up crazy numbers on the Varsity floor but this is just an example of how one weekend could possibly change your life from a recruiting standpoint. Johnson's ability to shoot the ball is going to get her looks at the college level if she can keep it up. She has a beautiful shooting stroke with coordinated balance and her situational awareness to know when to shoot, compared to when to run her team's offense is noteworthy. I'm hoping she keeps this up moving into this Fall/Winter. If she does, I'm sure she will have some suitors from the next level. It's really only a matter of time.
