About Emily
Expert Analysis
Brandon Fisher | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Emily has been extremely impressive in the few opportunities I’ve had to watch her, consistently standing out with her combination of size, length, and shot-making ability on the perimeter. She’s a knockdown shooter with a high, quick release that is difficult to contest, while her frame and length also create problems defensively through deflections and disruptive activity on that end of the floor. Beyond the shooting, she continues to show more confidence and effectiveness getting downhill offensively. Emily is one of the 2029 prospects in the country with some of the most untapped long-term potential, and her continued development in Iowa along with EYBL competition and exposure this summer could elevate her profile even further nationally.

has hit the ground running as she comes off of a rememberable high school campaign the last four months. This last weekend she was making it rain from deep, getting to the bucket of simple finishes on either side of the bucket, while defending her own position at a steady rate. Tanny stands out as a top prospect because of her skill mixed with her size. If she starts hitting three pointers at this high of a rate moving forward, like she did this last week and like she did to end the high school season, than it’s going to be hard to keep her out of the conversation for the #1 prospect out of Iowa in the 2029 Class. She checks off a lot of boxes and she keeps proving that she is getting better and better in real time, which is just as impressive I would say at this point in the process.

makes the major jumper from #10 in our last Update to #2 in this one. This jump occurred because of how Tanny ended her Freshman campaign. At this time Tanny was playing the best basketball out of ANY 2029 within Iowa. She was putting up huge scoring totals in her efforts while also dishing the rock, defending, and rebounding all at 6’1. We knew about Tanny coming into this season but she just put together a Winter that is going to land her in the Top Five of this Class for the foreseeable future. It’s going to be interesting to watching AIA during AAU this Spring. With players like Tanny within their 15U group, I wonder who else is going to step up to make a name for themselves and then bring that back to their high school programs. I know Tanny will but the others are TBD.

Tanny was not the leading scorer and she missed several shots that she probably normally makes in the game versus MBJ Elite , however she made more plays than anyone else. Tanny has great size and length which she utilized to her full advantage throughout the game. She rebounded the ball very well while harassing ball handlers defensively and getting steals and deflections after jumping in passing lanes. Tanny did not hesitate after recording a defensive rebound or steal and immediately put pressure on MBJ Elite by attacking them on the dribble with numbers on the break. She pushed the ball with great pace at times and kicked ahead some long, but accurate passes to teammates sprinting in transition. Tanny’s ability to slash to the basket and dictate pace at her size was very impressive. She got to the rim a number of times, including converting a nice floater in the middle of the paint after going left from the right wing.

put herself in the Top Five conversation of the 2029 Class with her performances leading up to her team’s State appearance and with her performances actually AT State the past few days. Tanny, the 6’1 CG, demonstrated that she can do it all out of the floor. She has great size for her age at 6’1, she is extremely coordinated, she is a multiple level scoring threat, and she is someone that is athletic enough to switch onto any other type of opponent on defense that might stand in her team’s way. The 2029 Class Rankings Update is in a few weeks and Tanny will be jumping up a bunch of spots. Which is pretty impressive considering she is listed at #10 right now and several prospects in front of her are being graded with a D1 level at this time.

might only be a prospect out of the 2029 Class at this time but she has been competing like a seasoned veteran as of late. Tanny has put together an impressive year as a whole with Wahlert Catholic but they aren’t done just yet. Wahlert Catholic is a group that should continue to keep winning as we move forward. They have all the pieces and their pieces are superior to their opponents from the looks of it. On Saturday they won their first game of the Playoffs by 50 against North Fayette Valley and Tanny went ballistic in the process. She had 24 points (9/15), 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and 5 steals to lead the way. W.C. is in a favorable spot right now. They control their own destiny and that’s a good thing.

Emily didn’t just light up the scoreboard, she owned it. As a freshman, she delivered a stat line that reads like a season résumé: 39, 23, and 21 points across three games, averaging 28 per night, highlighted by a 39-point explosion that tied a program record set in 1988. She knocked down 12 triples from deep, grabbed 18 rebounds, handed out 10 assists, and collected 9 steals, earning her “pick-pocket queen” status. Her all-around dominance powered the Golden Eagles to a 3–0 week as she rained threes, locked down passing lanes, and ran the show like a seasoned veteran.

might only be a Freshman this season but she has been competing like a veteran in multiple facets of the game. Tanny, a 6’1 CG, knows how to initiate contact, how to finish at the line, and how to use her size to her advantage in almost any given situation. Tanny is leading her team in PPG and RPG throughout their first 16 games (12-4) and I’m sure that will stay consistent until the year comes to an end. She has gotten to the line for 114 attempts so far, ultimately making 79% of those shots (90), proving that she is someone that you can’t foul at the end of a game as a cop out. If she gets hit, she usually converts in one way or another, with or without contact. Which is what you love to see out of a hooper that is only in her first year of Varsity ball.

I looked forward to watching Tanny in action. I’d seen her when she played in the same youth program as our daughter and had heard her game had come a long way. Plus, I reported on her mother, Amy Herrig-Tanny, when she played at Iowa. Young Tanny certainly lived up to the advanced billing. She’s a no-doubt Division I prospect with a significantly high ceiling. Tanny’s game is advanced in a lot of areas from her handle to shooting form to footwork to defensive technique. She can create matchup problems with her versatile skill set on offense and can guard opponents at multiple positions. Colleges already have Tanny on their radar and more will follow.

of Wahlert Catholic High School. Tanny is a 6’0 PG with some fundamental skill to her play-style. She loves to play off of two feet as she attacks off the bounce, giving her the option to counter if she is ever cut off. She rebounds and assists others at a higher rate than most for her age-group. All while being a sound defender on and off of the basketball. Tanny might be competing at a smaller high school throughout the state of Iowa right now but she has shown up over her career on the road with her
