Another One. Emily Tanny Emily Tanny 6'1" | PG/SG Wahlert Catholic | 2029 State IA grabs another D1 offer, this time to Montana State, to compete following high school ball. This is the 2nd or 3rd D1 offer for Tanny and it’s only the beginning. It seems like every-time we see her play, she is taller than the time before and that is noteworthy when you know the fact that she was 6’0 the last time we watched her. Now she is right around 6’1 and continuing to grow. When you pair that with natural PG ability – it’s astonishing to watch. Tanny does come from WNBA blood so this take-off is somewhat expected. That’s usually not how it works but you can see that she is slowly becoming bigger and better so the real question is, when will that stop? Because if it doesn’t, who knows where she might end up during her basketball career.

Recent Offer: D1 – South Dakota (SD)

At this point we might be talking about Emily Tanny every week throughout the rest of her high school career. Tanny was our biggest stock-riser last Winter at the Varsity level for the 2029 Class and she is following that up with some noteworthy play on the EYBL scene this Spring/Summer. Their EYBL team is currently undefeated in Live play with a 15-0 record, looking in tiptop shape for NIKE TOC this upcoming weekend. If this group play at their full capabilities, they are going to bring home a 15U EYBL National Title for back2back seasons and a big reason for that will be because of the play out of prospects like Tanny. They are truly a loaded squad. As long as they don’t settle, they should continue their reign of dominance to close out the month of July before moving back into high school ball for the Fall/Winter.

Do you really think Emily Tanny Emily Tanny 6'1" | PG/SG Wahlert Catholic | 2029 State IA is going to hit a game winning, contested, step back three pointer in OT in EYBL league play and we aren’t going to talk about it?! If so, you are sadly mistaken! Tanny stepped up to hit a major shot on Saturday afternoon in OT as time expired to give her EYBL team another W. She caught the ball elbow extended on the right side of the floor, drove left into a step back, all while being contested with some impressive defense, and it was nothing but net. As you can imagine it’s really hard to compete against these AIA EYBL teams at the end of a shot clock or game clock. 1 through 5 can hit shots from deep on each of their teams so it’s tough but in this situation Tanny just took over. She said give me the ball and move. Which is something you LOVE to see out of a competitor only moving into her Sophomore season of high school ball.

Securing the #2 spot once again is Emily Tanny of Walhert Catholic. Tanny made the jump from #10 to #2 in our last Update because of what she did on the Varsity floor to end the year. She wasn’t just good, she was great. She made every big play for Wahlert Catholic, while staying as basically a 6’1 PG/SG. That’s impressive, no matter how you put it from someone out of the 2029 Class at this time. Looking towards the future and this is one of the only other players out of this Class that I think could make a run at the #1 spot over time. It’s not going to be easy but it’s possible with her skill level, her natural size at over 6’0, and with the support she has around her. She comes from a family of previous college ballers so I wouldn’t be shocked if that was the case with Tanny as well.

Emily Tanny came off an impressive high school season and she picked up right where she left off as soon as she took the AAU floor. Sometimes when a player has a big high school season and they get used to that level of competition they slow things down and that does not translate to the EYBL AAU floor so it’s nice to notice that Tanny is still holding her own at a competitive rate. She has been all Spring long and that was the case once again this weekend. If she can keep this production up and keep up her shooting efficiency from deep then she will continue to be in the talks for that #1 spot out of the 2029 Class in Iowa. Those are two really important factors in that individual race but I’m sure that is something that is not even crossing her mind at this point in the process, which is probably a good thing.

Emily has been extremely impressive in the few opportunities I’ve had to watch her, consistently standing out with her combination of size, length, and shot-making ability on the perimeter. She’s a knockdown shooter with a high, quick release that is difficult to contest, while her frame and length also create problems defensively through deflections and disruptive activity on that end of the floor. Beyond the shooting, she continues to show more confidence and effectiveness getting downhill offensively. Emily is one of the 2029 prospects in the country with some of the most untapped long-term potential, and her continued development in Iowa along with EYBL competition and exposure this summer could elevate her profile even further nationally.

Emily Tanny Emily Tanny 6'1" | PG/SG Wahlert Catholic | 2029 State IA has hit the ground running as she comes off of a rememberable high school campaign the last four months. This last weekend she was making it rain from deep, getting to the bucket of simple finishes on either side of the bucket, while defending her own position at a steady rate. Tanny stands out as a top prospect because of her skill mixed with her size. If she starts hitting three pointers at this high of a rate moving forward, like she did this last week and like she did to end the high school season, than it’s going to be hard to keep her out of the conversation for the #1 prospect out of Iowa in the 2029 Class. She checks off a lot of boxes and she keeps proving that she is getting better and better in real time, which is just as impressive I would say at this point in the process.

Emily Tanny Emily Tanny 6'1" | PG/SG Wahlert Catholic | 2029 State IA makes the major jumper from #10 in our last Update to #2 in this one. This jump occurred because of how Tanny ended her Freshman campaign. At this time Tanny was playing the best basketball out of ANY 2029 within Iowa. She was putting up huge scoring totals in her efforts while also dishing the rock, defending, and rebounding all at 6’1. We knew about Tanny coming into this season but she just put together a Winter that is going to land her in the Top Five of this Class for the foreseeable future. It’s going to be interesting to watching AIA during AAU this Spring. With players like Tanny within their 15U group, I wonder who else is going to step up to make a name for themselves and then bring that back to their high school programs. I know Tanny will but the others are TBD.

Tanny was not the leading scorer and she missed several shots that she probably normally makes in the game versus MBJ Elite , however she made more plays than anyone else. Tanny has great size and length which she utilized to her full advantage throughout the game. She rebounded the ball very well while harassing ball handlers defensively and getting steals and deflections after jumping in passing lanes. Tanny did not hesitate after recording a defensive rebound or steal and immediately put pressure on MBJ Elite by attacking them on the dribble with numbers on the break. She pushed the ball with great pace at times and kicked ahead some long, but accurate passes to teammates sprinting in transition. Tanny’s ability to slash to the basket and dictate pace at her size was very impressive. She got to the rim a number of times, including converting a nice floater in the middle of the paint after going left from the right wing.

Emily Tanny Emily Tanny 6'1" | PG/SG Wahlert Catholic | 2029 State IA put herself in the Top Five conversation of the 2029 Class with her performances leading up to her team’s State appearance and with her performances actually AT State the past few days. Tanny, the 6’1 CG, demonstrated that she can do it all out of the floor. She has great size for her age at 6’1, she is extremely coordinated, she is a multiple level scoring threat, and she is someone that is athletic enough to switch onto any other type of opponent on defense that might stand in her team’s way. The 2029 Class Rankings Update is in a few weeks and Tanny will be jumping up a bunch of spots. Which is pretty impressive considering she is listed at #10 right now and several prospects in front of her are being graded with a D1 level at this time.
