BCAM Reaching Higher: Eight Breakout Wings and Guards

BCAM Reaching Higher is Michigan's premier high school girls' basketball team showcase each summer. BCAM brings 60+ teams from across the state to Grand Valley State University campus to compete in front of college coaches from every level. Two days provided ample opportunity to evaluate the prospects in the gym. I was able to see most of the teams play at some point over the weekend, and these eight prospects stood out during my time watching the games:   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">UPCOMING PGH EVENTS (Use "EvanBell10" code for discount)</h2>   The Freshman Showcase (2030s), August 22nd   <a href="https://events.prepgirlshoops.com/e/2390/register/michigan-freshman-showcase">Registration Link</a>   The Expo (2027-2029s), September 26th   <a href="https://events.prepgirlshoops.com/e/2420/register/the-expo-michigan">Registration Link</a>    Maya is a guard-wing prospect who has consistently impressed throughout our latest evaluation cycle. She had another impressive run for Holt at BCAM Reaching Higher. Maya's length, athleticism, muscular frame, ability to score at all three levels, and ball-handling control make her effective at playing multiple positions. She put her defender in the rearview mirror on a hard drive to the basket and used a high pick-up move to score the layup. Maya made a quick transfer after cutting to the basket for a catch and finish. She pushed the ball up the floor with pace after securing the defensive rebound and stepped into a confident straightaway three. Maya kissed a floater off the glass for a bucket and absorbed heavy contact to score a tough layup. She worked hard inside to grab offensive rebounds and showed her mental toughness by not reacting to a blown foul call in the paint.     Mady was one of the deadliest three-point shooters in the gym at BCAM Reaching Higher. It seemed like every time I turned around, she was dropping the ball into the bucket for Lowell. Mady was effective from the perimeter and as a slasher. She knocked down threes from different spots and got downhill. Mady went by using a quick baseline rip move, forced her way into position to score an offensive rebound putback, and used a crossover jab move to beat a defender off the dribble, then converted a nice inside hand finish on a baseline drive. Her performance definitely supported the offers she's been getting.     Evelyn battled adversity and lingering injuries, but she is back to full strength now. Evelyn had the look of fierce determination in her eyes at BCAM Reaching Higher, and she separated herself on the court. She muscled into position and secured multiple offensive rebounds, scoring putbacks and leaping way up off the floor for an athletic tip-in. Evelyn was effective as a slasher and perimeter scorer. She drained an open wing three and buried another triple from way downtown. Evelyn saw an opening, attacked, used a high pick up, and earned a trip to the free-throw line. She applied pressure to create steals and was extremely aggressive throughout the game. Evelyn penetrated off the dribble, drew the help, and dished out a nice bounce pass on the move to a teammate for an assist. She's long, athletic, a three-level scorer, aggressive, competitive, has advanced fundamentals and footwork, works equally hard on the defensive end, and checks the boxes of a high-level guard. Evelyn gained additional high-level interest during the scholastic event and proved again why she's a top prospect in this class.     Jana has length, athleticism, and aggressiveness that are extremely tough to match up against. She had another strong showing at BCAM Reaching Higher. Jana is most dynamic as a slasher, but she demonstrated confidence as a three-point shooter as well by sinking smooth threes from the wing and the slot. She used her quickness, anticipation, and length to wreak havoc in the passing lanes. Jana caused a deflection, scooped up the loose ball, and beat everybody to the basket for two points. She deflected another pass up top, secured the steal, and finished the fast break with her off hand. Jana has good instincts off the ball. She makes smart basket cuts, catches entry passes with good hands, and uses her hops to score contested layups off two feet. One of her highlight plays was an athletic and-one layup with a stretch finish going full speed to the basket. She's a highly talented wing-guard prospect who hasn't peaked yet.     I love when a player who doesn't get all the hype shows up and delivers a performance that makes them impossible to miss. Caroline was that girl at BCAM Reaching Higher. She's primarily a wing, but looked more than capable of handling the ball in the backcourt. Caroline drilled a deep straightaway three to start things off for Mercy and tripled again in the corner. She attacked down the baseline with a dribble burst, switched hands, and scored with an acrobatic inside-hand finish with a soft touch off the glass despite the defender. Caroline pushed the ball with pace up the floor using both hands, made crisp passes into the post with her off hand, finished layups in top gear, and earned trips to the free throw line. She buried consecutive shots from the line with balance and textbook mechanics on her follow-through. Caroline displayed her mental toughness by not reacting to a no-call on a foul in the paint. She sprinted in transition to block a shot from behind and scored with her left inside off the glass. She's going to be a great addition to a college program.     Sloane stepped into the spotlight for Chelsea at BCAM Reaching Higher and showed why she's one of the better guard prospects in her class. She was active in the passing lanes and communicated with teammates on the defensive end. Sloane drove hard to the basket, shot the ball confidently from three, and played aggressively on both sides of the ball. She scored a smooth reverse finish in traffic and buried a three off the bounce. This young Chelsea team will be very tough to beat this winter, and Sloane will be one of their brightest prospects on the floor.     Stella has been a major stock riser on the PGH Circuit this spring. She went up against an extremely athletic opponent and didn't yield an inch for Salem at BCAM Reaching Higher. Stella initiated contact with her shoulder, pivoted, and dropped in a tough floater with great touch over a defender. She broke down a defender with a fake spin move, got the angle, and scored another floater off the glass. Stella battled into position for rebounds and used effective footwork to score putbacks. She used fakes to open up passing windows and dished out dimes to cutters for assists. Stella penetrated off the dribble to score layups, finished off two, and generated steals with her perimeter pressure. She's a very talented and determined prospect who hasn't hit her ceiling yet.     Janielle was very impactful for Utica Eisenhower at BCAM Reaching Higher. She gave the team a spark with her outside shooting, hitting threes from the corner and the slot. Janielle slashed to the basket for a bucket off the dribble and made a smart backdoor cut for a smooth catch and finish. She's a dual-threat scorer who can create off the dribble, make opposing guards uncomfortable with her perimeter pressure, and energize the team with her toughness.
