Kentucky Freshman Showcase: Team 1 Sets the Tone

The 2026 Kentucky Freshman Showcase was a massive success in Louisville, bringing together nearly 60 prospects from the Class of 2030. The competition level was high, and the gym was buzzing from start to finish as some players made a name for themselves, while others continued to prove they belong among the top prospects in the class. Here are my evaluations and takeaways from Team 1.    Willow showed great patience and poise with the ball in her hands, utilizing ball screens to a tee and consistently making the right reads. She was also extremely active on the defensive end, bringing nonstop energy and effort.     Ellie was another talented prospect who represented Calloway County well at the Freshman Showcase. A lefty-guard, she shoots the three at a good clip and doesn't need much time or space to get her shot off. She also handles the ball well and competes hard on the defensive end.     A coach's dream, Josie she stood out in every game I watched. Whether she was making plays defensively, showing off her pure stroke from three-point range, or being a vocal leader on the floor, she made her presence felt. She's a smart, high-IQ player on both ends of the floor and has the total package if you ask me.     Jade's size and length immediately stood out to me. She's a focused shooter from deep who does a good job getting her feet set and dialing in from beyond the arc. She plays hard, has a good motor, and is a solid athlete overall.     I was eager to see Madison in action for the first time, and it's safe to say she delivered. She's a really good perimeter shooter who can get hot in a hurry, drilling back-to-back threes in the game I watched and providing instant offense for her team. Madison can also create for herself off the dribble, making her a tough cover when she gets going.     I love watching Lindsey play because she always looks like she's having fun out there. Her court vision was on full display, as she dropped a dime for an assist, putting the ball right where her teammate needed it to score. What I liked most was how well she communicated on the floor, always talking and keeping everyone engaged.     The future is bright at Carlisle County with a player like Sara. She's a lethal shooter from downtown who can also put the ball on the floor, get to the basket, and finish with either hand. Her ability to score from multiple levels was impressive, and she's no slouch on the defense either, getting after it on both ends.     Julz has a great blend of size, skill, and versatility. She showed her ability to get a bucket at all three levels while also displaying some impressive playmaking skills, creating scoring opportunities for her teammates. She has good upside and is a name you'll be hearing a lot about sooner rather than later.     Jakay was easily one of the top players at the Freshman Showcase. She's a strong, physical presence down low and was a beast in the paint. She owned the offensive glass, grabbing rebounds and going right back up strong to score. Jakay also displayed nice footwork and an impressive post moves. Defensively, she used her length to protect the paint and made it difficult to get anything at the rim.     North Laurel has a talented young post player in Ella. She moves well for her size, gets up and down the floor well, and is a skilled big who can put the ball on the deck and pass out of the post. She finishes well around the basket and also made an impact defensively, coming up with a monster block in the game I watched.
