Back in the summer of 2024, I played NBA JAM at an arcade. It's amazing what ideas can come from playing a video game. Leaving the arcade, I thought to myself: how cool would it be to create these video game graphics with ratings for some of Michigan's top high school dynamic duos? From there, the PGH Michigan Jam online tournament was born. Dynamic duos have gone head-to-head in a fully seeded tournament annually since 2024 to promote some of the best high school tandems across the state and offer a fun competitive experience for everyone. The fans determine which dynamic duo advances each round of the tournament, who gets the bragging rights, and which school receives live Prep Girls Hoops coverage at a regular-season game. Past winners include Rockford, Rochester Hills Stoney Creek, and now Grandville.

Taking the concept and transforming it into a live event seemed to be a no-brainer. 2-on-2, like the video game, would've been silly, so the format was adapted to 3-on-3 for Michigan Jam Live. I have been waiting for the right time, and the stars aligned to make it happen this year. It's been a long time coming, and I'm excited about the teams we have signed up for Sunday. It's a great format for fun and evaluation. More space on the court to defend and attack means there are more ball touches coming everyone's way and nowhere to hide. Every player will be counted on to advance in the championship tournament. Expect to see matchups that none of us would see anywhere else. I'm very happy about the variety of talent, teams, and the exciting slate of games. Pool play, two championship brackets, PGH coverage, event t-shirts, and a gym fit for the occasion: this is going to be a great kick-off to an annual tradition for Michigan girls basketball. Here are some of the forward prospects I'm expecting to be very productive for their teams.

Mia will be a difficult prospect to stop at Michigan Jam Live 3v3. 6-foot length, she tracks drives very well and protects the rim as a shot-blocker. Mia is skilled in the post, can face-up and attack, and finishes with a soft touch using either hand. She can knock down the 15 footer, will be tough to keep off the glass, and her ball-screens create wide-open lanes for teammates to slash to the hoop. Mia is a talented forward in the Oxford lineup that I'm anticipating a big day from tomorrow.

Bella will be the physically imposing post in the paint for Clarkston Gold at Michigan Jam Live 3v3. Her combination of high motor, anticipation, strong hands, physicality, and aggressiveness will make her a difficult player to stop on both sides of the ball. Bella finishes through contact, cleans up around the glass, has good passing vision, can step outside to sink the open jumper, is a relentless rebounder, and protects the basket as a shot-blocker. Expect a big day from Bella tomorrow.

Amiya is an under-the-radar Davison prospect that I'm anticipating to have a breakout sophomore season and be extremely impactful for the Cardinals. She has a high IQ, makes smart reads, moves well off the ball, knows when and where to pass, finishes through contact, and is very strong: she's someone you won't be moving off her spot. Amiya plays hard on the defensive end, moves well laterally, and is a determined rebounding force. She'll be a vital part of Davison's success at Michigan Jam Live 3v3 on Sunday.

Megan will be one of the most disruptive defenders, impactful rebounders, and versatile forward prospects in the gym at Michigan Jam Live 3v3. She's accurate from three, a powerful finisher off two feet, persistent on the boards, and her length/instincts create deflections/blocks on the defensive end. Megan has the quickness to defend on the perimeter and the strength to hold her ground in the paint. She'll be an impact player for Eisenhower at Michigan Jam Live 3v3.

Marissa is one of Fowlerville's most promising prospects, and she'll be an athletic forward who turns some heads at Michigan Jam Live 3v3. She has the confidence to step outside and drain the open three or play bully ball and score through contact in the post. Marissa is a productive rebounder, has good hands in the post, and can create space to shoot in the mid-range. Her ability to screen and roll or pick and pop should give the Gladiators a spark on Sunday. Marissa will have some tough matchups inside, and she looks ready for the challenge.
