P2W Michigan Jam Live 3v3 Preview: Point Guards

Back in the summer of 2024, I played NBA JAM at an arcade. It's amazing what ideas can come from playing a video game. Leaving the arcade, I thought to myself: how cool would it be to create these video game graphics with ratings for some of Michigan's top high school dynamic duos? From there, the PGH Michigan Jam online tournament was born. Dynamic duos have gone head-to-head in a fully seeded tournament annually since 2024 to promote some of the best high school tandems across the state and offer a fun competitive experience for everyone. The fans determine which dynamic duo advances each round of the tournament, who gets the bragging rights, and which school receives live Prep Girls Hoops coverage at a regular-season game. Past winners include Rockford, Rochester Hills Stoney Creek, and now Grandville.   Taking the concept and transforming it into a live event seemed to be a no-brainer. A 2-on-2 format (like the video game) would've been silly, so the format was adapted to 3-on-3 for Michigan Jam Live. I have been waiting for the right time, and the stars aligned to make it happen this year. It's been a long time coming, and I'm excited about the teams we have signed up for Sunday. It's a great format for fun competition and evaluation. More space on the court to defend and attack means there's more ball touches coming everyone's way and nowhere to hide. Every player will be counted on to advance in the championship tournament. Expect to see matchups that none of us would see anywhere else. I'm very happy about the variety of talent, teams, and the exciting slate of games. Pool play, two championship brackets, PGH coverage, event t-shirts, and a gym fit for the occasion: this is going to be a great kick-off to an annual tradition for Michigan girls basketball. Here are some of the point guards I'm expecting to deliver a knockout performance:    Madisyn has the nickname of "Mad Dog," and I'm expecting her pit bull-like ball pressure to give teams more than they can handle. She plays strong, moves quickly laterally, pokes the ball away with fast hands to create steals, and blows through gaps. As a facilitator and slasher, Madisyn will give Powers Catholic a major advantage at Michigan Jam Live 3v3. She's shifty with the ball in her hands, and defenders will have a difficult time keeping her from getting to the rim.     Alayna will have the home-court advantage at Clarkston High School on Sunday. She's crafty with the ball in her hands, sees the floor, handles it confidently, finishes around the rim, stretches the floor with her outside shot, makes the hustle plays, and is pesky with her long arms as a defender. Alayna will be an incoming freshman to watch at Michigan Jam Live 3v3 on the Clarkston Gold squad.     Speed, elusive ball-handling, vision, pinpoint passing, three-point shooting, in-your-face ball pressure, and fast feet are attributes you should expect to see when Naimah takes the court with Mercy at Michigan Jam Live 3v3 on Sunday. She's a playmaker in the backcourt you won't want to miss.     Kaiya brings an unlimited supply of communication, energy, and hustle to the Midland backcourt. She keeps the ball moving like a pinball to teammates, sinks the open three, has a very effective floater in the paint, goes after every 50/50 ball, keeps the ball on a string, and applies constant pressure on the perimeter. High-IQ court general who can do it all, and I'm anticipating a very impactful performance from her at Michigan Jam Live 3v3.     Madison is going to be one of the most talented prospects in the gym at Michigan Jam Live 3v3. She has the compact strength and physicality needed to score through contact. Madison has excellent body control and finesse around the rim, dishes out dimes as a facilitator, knocks down the open three, and turns up the heat on the defensive end. Eisenhower will have an advantage with Madison at the helm.     Ella is the top prospect on a young and promising Brandon squad. She does whatever needs to be done to help her team compete and leads by example. Ella possesses good length at the one spot and has the IQ needed to make smart reads off the ball. She's fundamentally sound, a three-point threat, crafty finisher around the basket, and skilled facilitator. Expect to see Ella making key plays for Brandon at Michigan Jam Live 3v3 on Sunday.     Kenley will be a matchup problem on Sunday. Her length, athleticism, rebounding presence, advanced footwork in the paint, finishing touch around the basket, three-point shooting, court vision, and ability to run the one or play off the ball will be tough to stop. Kenley disrupts passes and closes driving lanes. She is coming in red-hot after some impressive elite camps and will be an exciting guard to watch with West Catholic at Michigan Jam Live 3v3.     This Sunday is going to be a glimpse of what's coming this winter for Ovid-Elsie. People will like what they see from this group of four. Kendal is the returning court general from last year's squad, and after a solid AAU season with MBA UA-Rise, I'm expecting her to stand out at Michigan Jam Live 3v3. Kendal has good length at her position, plays with a high basketball IQ, and has a multidimensional skill set. She has sharp instincts on the defensive end, facilitates, handles the ball with poise, sinks the open three, and makes the gritty plays.     Nia is a point guard that I'm expecting to excel in the 3v3 format at Michigan Jam Live. She's confident handling the ball with both hands, sees the floor well, has a dribble burst that makes her difficult to stop from penetrating gaps, and finishes with a soft touch in traffic. Nia moves quickly laterally to cut off drives on defense, energizes the team with her hustle and competitive edge, and reaches in with a fast hand to poke the ball out for steals. She'll be a playmaker to watch on the Davison squad.
