PGH MI Freshman Showcase: Team 8 Evaluations

The 2030 Freshman Showcase was loaded with talent that will be the new faces of future college recruiting boards at every level. This marquee showcase set a PGH Michigan record with 94 prospects registered for the event, marking our second straight year with 90+ freshmen taking the court. We are truly grateful for the overwhelming support of Prep Girls Hoops and our showcases by the Michigan community. Your support enables us to do what we love: evaluate and identify as many college prospects across the entire state, while providing the best coverage we can to as many players as possible. Our format included 4 hours of games split up into predetermined 3v3 and 5v5 matchups. Every court was coached by college coaches, and they did a phenomenal job working with the players and providing feedback during the games. Let's talk about media exposure. There have been thousands of views of our live coverage on X and Instagram, and our post-event articles will be read by hundreds. Every participant receives a write-up in our articles, which is something unique and special about the Prep Girls Hoops showcases. My coverage focused primarily on teams 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8. She was an effective facilitator for Team 8 at the PGH Michigan Freshman Showcase, showing confidence as a shooter from beyond the arc. She penetrated with a speedy dribble, forced the help to collapse, and kicked the ball out to open shooters for assists. Elyse keeps her head up on drives and dumps the ball to teammates well in traffic. She switched hands to drop in a soft floater in the lane with her left and drained an open three from the slot. Elyse has quick feet on the defensive end and will be a two-way difference maker in the backcourt for Renaissance.     Fresh off an open run fireworks display, Lily continued to make her mark at the PGH Michigan Freshman Showcase, making a lasting impression on college coaches in the process. Her vision, crafty handles, effectiveness as a facilitator, and sharpshooting from three stood out. Lily couldn't miss during the three-on-three segment. She put the pedal to the metal during games with Team 8. One of her wow moments happened after she secured a defensive rebound, accelerated up the court in top gear, drove to the basket with a full head of steam, and went up strong to score a terrific and-one scoop layup. Lily contributed mightily as a rebounder, closed out hard to block a shot on the defensive end, created steals, ripped the nets from three, and made finishing with her inside hand look easy. She was one of the most complete players in the gym.     Eisenhower is adding another hooper to their squad. Anabella has a multidimensional skills set that will make her a difference maker in the program. She finished well off two and drove hard to the basket to earn a trip to the line. Anabella uses shifty double crossover combinations to keep defenders off balance, which opens up lanes to pass, drive, and shoot. One of her highlights was a quick double-crossover combo drive-by from the wing that resulted in a speedy layup. She gets to the line, knocks down her free throws, and has a good shot from beyond the arc. Anabella was a solid contributor for Team 8 at the PGH Michigan Freshman Showcase.     Charley separated herself during the 3v3 segment, and that trajectory continued throughout the day. She drove hard to the basket, absorbed the contact, and finished at the rim. Charley kicked the ball out to the corner for an assist, and put her defender on skates with a shifty between-the-legs crossover, then blew by to score the layup with a fluid left-handed finish. In games, she kept standing out. Charley used a sweet fake-pass move to score a layup, raced up the court after securing rebounds to cause fouls, and dropped in a floater off two feet after grabbing the offensive board. Charley demonstrated excellent split footwork on the catch that enabled her to rip by quickly. She stared down the rim, used a head fake, then went by to score a tough layup off two feet without the backboard's help. Her active defense created deflections and steals. She rocked the baby to sleep on a silky smooth scoop finish at the rim, and had a college coach so excited that he said I should take her picture twice. Charley was a complete game changer for Team 8 at the PGH Michigan Freshman Showcase and will be an electric prospect in the Chelsea prospect this winter.     Karyelis did a little bit of everything to help Team 8 be successful at the PGH Michigan Freshman Showcase. She penetrated with her dribble and made a great, unselfish extra pass for the dump off assist. Karyelis makes good transfers in traffic and converted multiple catch and finish layups around the basket. Karelis showed her range by swishing a smooth corner three, crashed the glass to secure an offensive rebound, and scored a tough bucket over a long defender in the lane. She'll be a playmaker to watch in the Pontiac backcourt.     Ruby is a wing-forward prospect coming to Traverse City West who looks ready to make an immediate impact. She slides her feet well on the defensive end to stop drives, facilitates the ball to open teammates for assists, and is a productive rebounder. Ruby is a threat from beyond the arc and her defensive energy will make her an immediate contributor at the high school level. She had a solid day for Team 8 at the PGH Michigan Freshman Showcase.     Emily is a long and versatile prospect who looks ready to make a difference at Eisenhower. There's certainly no shortage of talent in their gym. Emily can do everything on the court. She finishes well off two feet in the paint, sprints in to score putbacks, and produces as a rebounder on both ends of the court. Emily did a great job of using the post and delivering good passes inside, which is something you don't always see. Emily buried a smooth three in the corner and cut to the basket for a soft left-handed finish off the glass. She made a multidimensional impact on the court for Team 8 and will be a prospect to watch over the years at Eisenhower.     Kaylyn is a post prospect with physicality, strength, and great potential to be a force inside. She's already demonstrating good instincts on both ends of the court and has sound footwork in the paint. Kaylyn anchored the middle of the defense and anticipated a pass to pick it off for a steal. She worked hard inside for the advantage, pinned defenders with her strong seals, and passed out when the shot wasn't there. Kaylyn protected the basket and swatted multiple shots away on drive attempts. She used good pivots to create a scoring angle, was active on the glass, scored put backs, and presented a target for teammates to throw lobs down lob. Kaylyn gave Team 8 an advantage inside at the PGH Michigan Freshman Showcase and she's going to be a matchup problem this winter.     Brooklyn has excellent size, instincts, energy, and fundamental skills for her age and position. She caught passes with good hands in the post, went up strong to cause fouls, and made smooth transfers after posting up in the paint or cutting to the basket to score layups with a soft touch. Brooklyn was active as a rebounder on both sides of the ball, made a nice extra pass to a cutter, forced a miss by closing out to contest a perimeter jumper, used strong power dribbles down low, and was a positive energy player/teammate. She showed the ability to start the fast break by pushing the ball up the floor using both hands comfortably. Brooklyn gives Groves a clear advantage in the post and she's going to be an immediate difference maker for their squad. Brooklyn had a strong day for Team 8 at the PGH Michigan Freshman Showcase.
