Elite Talent from the EYG Skills Clinic

The EYG Skills Clinic brought together an impressive collection of talent, with players from across the DMV and several other states competing under one roof. With nearly 150 players working through skills, drills, and competitive game action, there was no shortage of talent to evaluate. Some players stood out with their scoring ability, while others caught my attention with their defense, athleticism, versatility, or overall feel for the game. Here are some of the elite talents who made their presence felt throughout the event.    Charli looked like she was in her element, smiling, laughing, enjoying time with friends, and simply having fun hooping. Defensively, she was one of the best players in the building, consistently making her presence felt on that end of the floor. Offensively, she made plays attacking the basket while also showing the ability to score from the perimeter.   Charli was vocal on both ends, helping other players through drills and getting teammates in the right positions. She showed a high basketball IQ and a great feel for the game, often recognizing what was happening on the floor before it developed. Her combination of skill, communication, and leadership stood out throughout the event.     Naomi was one of the first players I noticed when I walked into the gym. Her college-ready size and frame gave her a strong presence even before she took her first shot. At 6'2”, she moved well on the floor, showing the ability to finish inside while also contributing on the perimeter.   She displayed good mobility for her size and looked comfortable operating in different areas of the floor. Naomi is also an accomplished two-sport athlete who excels in volleyball, and that athleticism was evident in the way she moved and competed on the basketball court.     Kamiera played with a lot of energy and seemed to move a step faster than most of the players on the court. Her shot looked like she has been putting in a lot of work, as she knocked down deep three-pointers even with defenders getting a hand in her face. She also showed the ability to play under control at full speed, coming to a balanced stop and knocking down the pull-up jumper off the dribble. Her combination of pace, shooting range, and control made her difficult to contain.     Afia shot the three-pointer well, using the step-back dribble effectively to create space from defenders. She showed a quick release with good form and looked comfortable getting into her shot off the dribble. Her confidence was on display throughout the action as she continued to look for opportunities to create against harassing defenders. She remained composed under pressure and trusted her ability to make plays with the ball in her hands.     I watched Isabel knock down shot after shot during shootaround, showing a nice touch on intermediate shots along with range from deep, all with good, consistent form. While her shooting caught my attention, I was even more impressed with her defensive intensity once the competitive action began. On one play in particular, Isabel chased down an opponent in transition and came up with a game-saving block that kept her team on the floor. It was the type of effort play that showed her competitiveness and willingness to make an impact on both ends.     Mylee finished well at the basket and was able to maintain her concentration through defensive contact. She shot the ball well enough from the perimeter to force defenders to respect her shot, which opened up driving lanes to the basket. Mylee also showed good court vision, finding open teammates and creating opportunities for others by drawing help defenders when she attacked. Her ability to score while also creating for her teammates made her effective with the ball in her hands.     Aleiyah has a strong body and a nice frame that she uses well around the paint. She operated effectively from the high post, showing the ability to find cutting teammates or kick the ball back out and reposition for a repost. When defenders backed off to take away the passing lanes, she showed that she could turn, face, and knock down the 13-footer with good touch and form. Her ability to pass, score, and make reads from the high post gives her multiple ways to impact the offense.
