H2C Hardwood Showcase Recap

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>695 Hoops presented the Harbor2Capital Hardwood Showcase at the Indian Creek School. The targeted invite only event featured unsigned juniors and seniors participating in high intensity drills and live game action that was played out in front of college coaches. The competition was solid and the coaches were actively viewing in search of talent to bring in to their program. Of course PGH and NSP were on hand to report all of the action. She dominated both 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 play with an impressive combination of scoring, passing, and overall command of the game. She consistently saw the floor a step ahead, dictating the action with her leadership, decision-making, and ability to keep the ball moving.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As a scorer, Kayden found creative angles to finish at the rim against taller defenders and showed excellent body control when navigating traffic. Her offensive game extended well beyond attacking the basket, as she knocked down pull-up jumpers and three-pointers from different spots on the floor. That versatility made her extremely difficult to defend because she could create her own offense at all three levels.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Her passing was equally impressive. Kayden delivered accurate full-court dimes in transition, consistently found teammates in scoring position, and showed the vision to recognize opportunities before they fully developed. She played with confidence and control while still allowing the game to come naturally to her. She also showed the range to step away from the paint and knock down the three, giving her some versatility on the offensive end.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Her biggest strength was attacking the basket, which she looked to do repeatedly throughout the day. Jaelyn used a combination of spin moves and powerful straight-line drives to get into the paint, while also doing a good job of moving without the ball and cutting into open spaces for scoring opportunities. Once she got downhill, her size and strength made her difficult to contain.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>She also showed a nice short hook shot around the basket. That could become an important weapon at the next level, particularly when she is matched against taller and longer shot blockers. She was effective finishing around the basket and also showed that she could create offense with the ball in her hands, using her dribble to attack from both the high and mid-post areas.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I was particularly impressed with her hands. She was able to secure passes that were delivered away from her body, gather herself, and still finish the play around the rim. That ability to adjust to off-target passes while maintaining control is a valuable skill for a post player and gives guards a larger window to get her the ball.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Ofundem also ran the floor well during full-court play. She consistently worked to beat opposing post players down the court and establish early position, allowing her team to get into its offensive sets with an immediate interior presence. On one possession, she missed a three but the offensive rebound found its way back to her. There was almost an anticipation that the second one was going in, as players began heading back down the court before she even released it. Tatiana calmly knocked it down, hitting nothing but net.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>While her shooting immediately stood out, Tatiana showed that there is more to her offensive game. She attacked the baseline with a strong drive and finish, showing that defenders cannot simply run her off the three-point line and expect to take her out of the play. She also displayed her strength and concentration around the basket, finishing through a hard foul and maintaining control despite the contact.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Her ability to stretch the floor is clearly a weapon, but combining that shooting with the willingness to attack closeouts makes Tatiana an even tougher matchup. At the point, she does a good job of pushing the ball in transition and immediately putting pressure on the defense to get back and get organized. She showed the ability to knock down the three while also keeping her eyes up and finding open cutters for scoring opportunities.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of her best plays of the day came on a beautiful spin move into a drop step that allowed her to split three defenders and finish at the basket. It was an impressive combination of footwork, body control, and awareness in traffic.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>De'ja also made her presence felt defensively. She was aggressive guarding the ball, applying consistent pressure and using her activity to create deflections and steals. Her ability to impact the game on both ends stood out.
