P4 Coaches Take In Open Gym at South Forsyth

Recently ranked the number three player in the 2029 girls' high school basketball class nationally, [player_tooltip player_id='991134' first='Carib' last='Morris'] had a very impressive lineup of Power Four college coaches in attendance at the open gym at South Forsyth High School on Wednesday night. Duke, Southern California, Maryland, Minnesota, Alabama, and Ohio State were represented and there to show Morris how much those programs value you her as a potential future player. Several other players from the area were on hand and stood out with their play.    There are not many "exemplary" boxes left to check on the offensive end for Carib, but I did see her do something for an extended period of time that I had not previously and that was running the point for her team when the players got up and down the court. Morris wanted to trim down this offseason (not necessary, but something I know she wanted to do) and she definitely looked lighter on her feet than in the past. She continues to get more comfortable trying difficult dribbling combinations on the perimeter to create the space to get her shot off. She also threw two passes that had myself and the people around me looking around at each other afterwards. One she caught on the move and without taking a dribble passed the ball off the floor behind her back to an area where someone should have filled for a layup. I think her teammates were as surprised as I was that she even tried that one. another was a no-look kick out pass with her left hand that she whipped from the wing to the opposite corner for an open three. Those colleges are just the latest in a long line that have visited that gym since workouts began and they certainly won't be the last. She is one of the most highly recruited players in the country in any classification for very good reason.     It took me a minute to figure out that it was EK without a Redline jersey on, but when she started bringing the ball up the court and knocked down a three from the perimeter, I knew it was her. There are not many players her size in North Georgia with the ability to play on the perimeter effectively. I saw [player_tooltip player_id='1241700' first='Reese' last=''] do that for Lumpkin County at GAC last year as she had a very good performance in a big game. [player_tooltip player_id='1241700' first='Reese' last=''] is listed as a PF but played like a guard during the open run and looked very good doing it. She will partner with [player_tooltip player_id='743570' first='Reagan' last='Richardson'] to form one of the better frontcourts in the state. She is emerging at the right time and could easily see her ranking go up with the next update this Fall. College coaches should definitely know who EK is.     On the team opposite Morris, Ledford did everything she could to keep her side in it. She has proven over the last two seasons that she in not just one of the best guards in a loaded 2028 class in Georgia, but one of the very best players. She combines very good, sneaky athleticism and elite skill handling and shooting the basketball. Blaklee uses her quickness to get out and score in transition a couple of times every time I see her play. She is an excellent shooter from both the midrange and behind the three-point line. I think close to 75% of those come off the dribble and with a quick release making her extremely difficult to guard. She is very good playing bigger than size in the painted area on offense, often scoring in tight quarters and over taller defenders.     After one really nice hesitation move and then quick between the legs, behind the back dribbling combination I told the person next to me "Calleigh has some of the most underrated handles in the state." Her change of speed with the ball and picking when to use it is also very impressive. She always does a very good job pushing the ball in transition with her head up, surveying the floor, and picking out open teammates ahead. In the halfcourt, Calleigh is a threat to score from the perimeter as well as breaking down her defender off the bounce and getting into the paint and finishing. I think she has the chance to have a very big year statistically, both scoring and with assists, as she will try and help lead her team to a state championship this Winter.     Jimada watched the first run from the sidelines, but as per usual when she hit the floor, she made a pretty immediate impact. She was very poised on the ball and made good decisions against the group of older players. One of her first contributions on the offensive end was a three-point shot she knocked down trailing in transition with a hand in her face. Another came quickly thereafter as Aniela ripped down a rebound and took two dribbles before firing a pass 3/4 court to an open [player_tooltip player_id='926798' first='Blaklee' last='Ledford'] for an uncontested layup. I think she has a chance to be a big-time contributor for this team coming off the bench throughout the course of a long season. Jimada could be the addition her team needs to advance further in the state tournament come February as well.     Anzola's return could be huge for South Forsyth and their hopes at advancing even further in the state tournament than a year ago. The lefty is a strong, skilled player who has the potential to score double figures in every game and easily average over ten points per game for the season. Ana is a very good shooter from three-point range (her biggest strength) as well as from 12-15 feet both off the bounce and in catch and release situations. She does a good job using the power in her upper body to keep defenders off of her on the bounce and allows her to finish through contact at the rim. No question about it, Anzola has a chance to be the comeback player of the year in her classification and perhaps the state.
