There was plenty of talent at the Prep Girls Hoops Dakotas Expo, including some of the biggest names in region. There were also a lot of players we were not familiar with who showed clearly that they have the potential to make an impact now and at the next level. We liked how she would get low in her stance, apply pressure and use her strength to battle bigger opponents. Fallon found ways to contribute throughout the day, displaying good passing instincts and a willingness to attack. The 5'6 guard from Milbank possesses a strong, athletic build and showed a smooth perimeter shooting stroke, particularly from beyond the three-point line. Her background as a standout cross country and track athlete is evident in her speed, endurance and ability to maintain a high work rate. Hendricks never ran out of energy on Sunday, a valuable attribute during an afternoon of demanding competition. Bailee brought that same motor to the defensive end, where her quickness and stamina allowed her to sustain pressure throughout.

Hickey needed some time to adjust to Sunday's pace and intensity, but the 5'10 Chamberlain freshman became increasingly comfortable as the afternoon progressed. Competing alongside several high-level prospects, she gradually found her place and began playing with greater confidence. Late in her team's final game, Hickey unleashed an impressive burst of speed and elevated toward the rim, offering an enticing glimpse of her potential. Long, lean and mobile, Rory has the versatility to contribute inside or on the perimeter. You know, I think one of the most beautiful views I've seen in South Dakota is the one from Chamberlain's Dignity statue looking up the Missouri River. We suspect Hickey's long-term basketball outlook could be just as good.

Jaquet looked comfortable from the opening possession Sunday, seemingly unaffected by the pace or physicality of the competition. The 5'8 Sioux Valley guard combines a strong build with smooth movement, good court awareness and was quite opportunistic. More than once she appeared trapped in a precarious situation, only to execute a Houdini-like escape thanks to her quality vision and on-court composure. Jaquet also impressed defensively, demonstrating the discipline, lateral quickness and intelligence to make life difficult for opponents. Coming from Sioux Valley's winning culture, Matilynn plays with the understanding and confidence of someone who has been taught the game the right way.

May became increasingly effective as Sunday's competition progressed, finding ways to contribute while playing with tremendous energy. The 5'9 forward from Custer clearly wanted the basketball in her hands and worked consistently to get involved. Her pace improved throughout the afternoon, and she was still going strong late in the final game while others were gassed. Myley has a solid, athletic frame and the versatility to fulfill multiple roles depending on her team's needs. She's also a capable perimeter shooter with sound mechanics and a history of three-point success at the varsity level. Her effort and endurance were great.

Reitz made an early impression Sunday with a confident three-pointer, demonstrating that the 5'10 Castlewood forward can stretch the floor. What really caught our attention during the Expo was Ella's relentless pursuit of the basketball. Reitz battled for rebounds, dove after loose balls and consistently found herself in the middle of the action. She's a scrappy competitor with a strong frame who moves surprisingly well for her size. Nothing about her game is particularly flashy, but she showed a knack for being in the right place and making something happen. Reitz is a gamer whose effort and instincts make her quite effective.

Strenge brought plenty of energy to Sunday's Expo, flying around the floor and creating opportunities through tenacious defense. The 5'6 Sioux Valley guard forced turnovers with her quickness and anticipation, turning defensive stops into offensive opportunities. Kaia has some bounce to her game and displayed the fundamentals, ballhandling and passing ability of a player who understands what she's doing. Strenge plays with confidence and makes intelligent decisions without trying to do too much. As a young 2030, her smaller frame leaves considerable room for physical development, but the foundation is there. As she grows stronger, her quickness, competitive spirit and all-around skill set will serve her well.

Yarbor is a gamer, and Sunday's Expo provided plenty of evidence. The 5'6 guard from Forest City, Iowa competed relentlessly, fighting for every inch and remaining engaged throughout the afternoon. She's not necessarily the quickest player on the floor, but her anticipation, instincts and understanding of positioning enables her to get where she needs to go quite efficiently. Yarbor sees the floor well, delivers intelligent passes and consistently looks for ways to influence the action. Raven has a good build and with a real willingness to compete with determination is a huge asset. Already a varsity contributor for a successful Forest City program, and a member of the PGH Iowa Watch List, Yarbor has great intangibles that should carry her far.

Kaia Strenge

State: South Dakota

She's not necessarily the quickest player on the floor, but…
