The biggest news for a commitment in recent history out of Iowa happened a few days ago when [player_tooltip player_id='643486' first='Jhaliana' last='Guy'] went public with her commitment to Stanford University. Guy is a next-level talent out of the 2028 Class with hyper-athletic ability, skill in all facets of the game, and a smart head on her shoulders. Offensively, her blow by ability is second-to-none. She can shoot the leather off the ball from any distance and she can tear you apart defensively if you give her the opportunity. She is the definition of a quick-learner and she is always trying to better herself in training with real game situations. Guy is nationally ranked by BTN as the #1 rated 2028 prospect in the Country and by WER as the #6 player in the Country. I'm sure ESPNW is going to follow suit shortly, placing her high-up in their ranks before the Summer AAU sessions are upon us. This commitment wasn't just state-wide news. It was national news and that speaks to the impact of what she can do out on the hardwood.

A more surprising commitment out of the 2026 Class occurred over the weekend as PG, [player_tooltip player_id='560334' first='Claire' last='Turner'] of Spirit Lake High School verbally agreed to sign with NDSU to compete on the soccer pitch. Turner is a Top 25 prospect out of the 2026 Class at the PG spot because of her endurance, her next-level play making ability, and her craftiness once she gets into the teeth of the defense off the dribble. I would assuming that Turner would be getting a ton of attention this AAU Basketball season so I thought she might wait to pull the trigger on this one but when it's right, it's right. This is what she wants to do moving forward and we wish her the best. That doesn't mean that you can stop worrying about her on the high school floor though. I'm sure Turner is going to be more motivated than ever to get back on the court and end things off with a bang for her Senior season.

UNK-Kearney received a commitment at the end of last week from home-town hero, [player_tooltip player_id='1005068' first='Kelsey' last='Hatcher'] of Kearny High School. Hatcher will join UNK as someone that most already know from the area. If you don't know Hatcher, she is a quick-thinker in clutch moments and someone that is going to make a play happen whenever her team's system might break down. She has a nasty cross with a great change of speed when looking to go at her defender and that helps lead into all other facets of her play-style. She hasn't been Kearny's only source of production over the years but she has been one of their most consistent. As a PG, I'd put Hatcher in the pass-first category but she can still score it thoroughly if need be as well. At Kearney, I'm sure she will be looked upon to do both but we will just have to wait and see.

[player_tooltip player_id='896704' first='Grayson' last='Gentile'] committed to compete with Midamerican Nazarene starting this Fall, a program with a lot of pedigree and success. Gentile, a 6'2 Center, is a player that works hard around the rim primarily. She can work from the midrange and in but she really thrives near the hoop. She has demonstrated over the years on the road that she can matchup with most Forwards that she has come across. This isn't someone that I would say is going to do something flashy. More-so she works hard, boxes out and boards consistently, she can score with her size advantage on either side of the basket, and she does a good job of running the lane lines in transition like a pro. All of these things will help her compete and hopefully help her see the floor on a consistent basis at the next level. She does her work early on in possessions and that should transition.

I'm not sure that Kelsey Leather's commitment to St. Ambrose is super recent but we just found out about it at her signing so we will play it off like it is. Leathers is a lengthy Forward, that likes to sit around the painted area looking for rebounds and other opportunities. This past Winter, CCA really lived off of their guard play in [player_tooltip player_id='509225' first='Averie' last='Lower'] and [player_tooltip player_id='782232' first='Lena' last='Evans'] but one of their post's that did put up some quality numbers was Leathers. This is the type of prospect that could turn into a nice product at the next level if she works on her weaknesses moving forward. She has a smart head on her shoulders, good vision in the half court, she isn't afraid of contact, and she is versatile in moving around from spot-to-spot somewhat. Who knows what she might put together with the right guidance over the next couple of years.
