Team Previews- Russia

A trip to the D7 state finals was in the cards last season for the Russia Raiders, and they look to make a return trip to the UD Arena this season. They do have a lot of weapons back as they gear up for what they hope is another phenomenal season. They will take part in the season opening Lady Patriots Classic at Tri Village against the defending D3 state champions from Chaminade Julienne.

Players to Watch

She is the true meaning of the word competitor. She does whatever it takes to win. Outstanding on the boards, can score inside or out and she has worked a lot on her leadership to prepare for her senior season. Her ability has always been there for Russia, she is a great athlete and shines in multiple sports. Smart, heady player with a good basketball IQ.

Just a big-time all around player. She earned Player of the Year from multiple outlets last season and landed on the first-team all-Ohio list. The first thing that comes to mind with her is her incredible ability to play defense. She will completely shut you down and is considered the best defender in the area in D7. Averaged double figures, can contribute in all aspects of the game. Gets out and runs, can finish at the rim. She is working on her outside shot to complete her game.

If you look up a picture of a point guard in the dictionary, you will see her. She is a great floor leader, a coaches kid who just knows how to make her team go. She can shoot the three well and can get them into their offense. Very few turnovers and handles pressure. She works as hard as anyone to become a better player and it shows with her being a year older and a year better.

Cami can absolutely light you up if you leave her open. Unlimited range, she is long and athletic and working hard every day to tone up her defense. But she is a kid who loves to get better. A shot blocker with good quickness, she uses her size well. Look for her production to increase this year. Really like her work ethic and push to become the best player she can be.

Jewel will be able to play multiple positions this season for the Raiders as she makes her high school debut. She has the talent to play anywhere and they will look to get her on the floor anywhere they can. Nice outside shooter and very solid on the block and had a nice summer with this group as a freshman. Fits right in with this group of girls. Great handles and sharp passer with good vision.
