Prep Girls Preseason Predictions:
South Pointe HS – The Lady Stallions has some good fire power to make some noise this season.
Catawba Ridge HS – Great season last year for the Lady Copperheads has they made it to the Upper State Championship Game. Catawba Ridge finished (23-3) a season ago.
Northwestern HS – The Lady Trojans will surprise some teams this season after finishing (17-8) a season ago.
Lancaster HS – The Bruinettes will be right in the middle of things this season and look for KeMarja Peay KeMarja Peay 5'10" | PF Lancaster | 2025 State SC to have a big season.
York Comprehensive HS – Kymyia Brown and Jada Anderson Jada Anderson 5'2" | PG York | 2023 State SC will look to lead this team this season.
Indian Land HS – Who replaces in Carrigan McCloud Carrigan McCloud 5'8" | SF South Pointe | 2023 State SC now at South Pointe?
McCloud will be wearing a new uniform this coming season. Carrigan averaged 18.1 ppg, 8.4 rebounds and 2.8 steals last season at Indian Land HS. Carrigan has a great skill set and scorer’s mentality on the floor. She really can score the rock from all over the floor. McCloud was a recent Stock-Riser in the Prep Girls Hoops rankings with her play at the SCBCA Elite Camp last month in North Charleston. She didn’t play on the Grassroots Circuit this past season.
McCloud is the Prep Girls Hoops Preseason Region Player of the Year.
Postel brings commitment and hustle around the paint area where she feels most comfortable at times. Tatum has been a fixture since the doors opened at Catawba Ridge. She averaged 8.7 ppg and 4.9 rebounds last season for the Lady Copperheads. Tatum runs track in the spring while playing with Lady Attack Elite on the Grassroots Circuit. She is great glue player on a team – does all the little things that need to be done at times.
Grigg averaged 15.6 ppg, 4.3 steals and 2.6 assists last season for the Lady Trojans. Darby is a feisty guard who has no problems sacrificing her body at times on the floor when it comes to a loose ball or taking a charge. Grigg a 3-sport athlete also excels on the soccer field and volleyball court.
Bell is a true post player down low with a very soft touch around the cup. Zaria will look to work from block to block in paint and play with her back to the basket. She will tend to keep the ball up high after claiming it off the glass. Bell could be a key member of this Lady Stallions squad this season behind McCloud and Morris.
Dekayla has good length and size to roam around the paint. She has the ability to alter and challenge shots on the defensive end of the floor. Starr will fill the lane in transition and feels most comfortable playing close to the cup. Dekayla and the Lady Trojans finished (17-8) last season.
Morris and McCloud could really turnout to be a solid 1-2 duo in the Upstate this season for the Lady Stallions. Victoria averaged 11.7 ppg and 8.5 rebounds last season. She has no problems scoring the ball from all 3 levels on the floor. Victoria feels comfortable knocking down shots out on the perimeter.
Davis and the Lady Copperheads (23-3) had a great run last year before falling to Westside HS in the Upper State Finals. Morgan a forward averaged 6.2 ppg and 4.8 rebounds. She isn’t flashy with her play at all she just does the little things to help you team win games. Morgan can come up with a big rebound, loose ball or a bucket around the paint.
Makailah inserted herself into the starting lineup last year and never looked back. She averaged 14.2 ppg, 4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.7 steals last season as a freshman. Makailah is constantly swarming the ball on defensive end of the court. She plays every possession like it’s her last one. Davis moves well without the ball around the floor. Makailah takes a lot of pride in diving on the floor or taking a charge.
Peay averaged 13.9 ppg and 7.4 rebounds for the Bruinettes last season. KeMarja has been on the varsity since her 8th grade year at Lancaster HS. She brings good versatility to floor with her ability to play multiple positions. KeMarja runs the floor well and has no problems filling the lane in transition.
A few more names to keep an eye on this region will be JaNyia Cunningham JaNyia Cunningham 6'1" | SF South Pointe | 2027 State SC and Kaleigh Lucas Kaleigh Lucas 5'4" | PG Saluda Trail M.S / South Pointe | 2028 SC . Cunningham plays at Northwestern HS while Lucas (2028) will play at South Pointe HS.
