Continue ReadingYazmeen Whitsitt Yazmeen Whitsitt 5’8″ | PG Decorah | 2024 State IA has been putting in some WORK this season thus far for the Decorah Vikings. Whitsitt, a quick and efficient shooting guard, is averaging 21 PPG on 45% shooting while knocking down 38 of the 91 three pointers that she has attempted this year. Coming out of the break the Vikings are holding at a 9-2 record overall with some big time wins on their resume already from the first half of their season. A big part of this being due to the duo of point guard Bryar Duwe Bryar Duwe 5’7″ | PG Decorah | 2023 State IA , who can really dish it out, and Whitsitt. The combination of the lethal point guard along with a knock down shooter and scorer in Whitsitt has been making a long day for their competition as of late. Coming out of break Whitsitt is sitting third in scored points overall this season in Iowa’s women’s high school basketball and she intends to keep up that pace as the regular season comes to an end and the playoffs begin.
Audrie Helmrichs
Audrie Helmrichs
Audrie Helmrichs stat line thus far this season maybe the best in the state as she is averaging a little over 20 PPG and over 14 RPG for Edgewood-Colesburg high school. If we account for Helmrichs playing in a very competitive conference, center wise, she has been having a monster year while leading her team to an overall 5-7 record so far this season. The best way to put her game into words would be that she is a very hard worker in which her team plays through to find success. When everyone does their job and gets the ball into her hands, it usually ends up with a successful possession so if they can keep up more of that as time goes on, the better. If Helmrichs can continue to show her success in the post for the rest of this year and into a few playoff games before it’s all said and done than she will end this year with one of the most impressive stat lines we have seen in a long time here in the state of Iowa.

Kinzee Hinders Kinzee Hinders 6’1″ | PF Newell-Fonda | 2025 State IA has the best shooting percentage in the state at just over 72% so far this year while averaging 11.2 PPG. Hinders, an aggressive forward, has been fantastic this season and a big reason why her Newell-Fonda team has started with a 5-1 record, their only loss going to the #1 ranked team in 3A in Estherville-Lincoln Central by 2 points in which they led going into the fourth quarter by 3 points. She may not be the only weapon on this team but having an efficient player like herself in the middle helps out with the rebounding aspect of things as well as altering shot attempts against players who get into the lane. Along with that stuff she does a great job of talking to her guards about what is going down on the court in that moment and making sure it’s clear what they have to do to come out on top. I think there is a lot of promise here in Hinders. She plays for a highly ranked program while putting up good numbers in the programs success. Over the next few seasons I imagine that her numbers will grow more before she graduates and she gets some high division looks by the end of things.
Lindsay Davis has her Nodaway Valley Wolverines team in a great spot after their first 11 games, starting 9-2 overall up to this point. Davis, who has one of the highest field goal percentages this season in the state, is averaging 26.8 PPG while also stacking up some rebounds and assists for her team. In general what you see out of Davis on the floor is what you get. She is the definition of a leading scorer and offensive weapon for her team and really has been for a good amount of time now. She does a lot of good things and some even great things when she is on the floor but I think the biggest factor with her game is the “it” factor she possesses. She has this factor in her game where in the right moment and at the right time she is always making the right choices, pushing her team to success. Davis is going to have a chance to be the leading scorer in the state at the end of this year but I wonder how far that will take this Nodaway Valley team, that has a decent amount of weapons at their disposal.
