I stopped by The Best of Maryland, which takes place annually in Western Maryland at Frederick Community College and Hood College. The event was loaded with college coaches from all levels and it featured some quality teams from several states. There were a number of good performances, here are some the players that caught my attention.
Natalie Wetzel
Natalie Wetzel
Good shooter with a soft touch around the rim. Excellent footwork and post moves with counters. Attacks close-outs aggressively with drives to the rim. Fundamentally sound and does not shy away from contact. Solid defender on ball and in help defense. Good timing on her blocks. She is racking up offers.
Active defender with decent footwork out on the perimeter. Good shot blocker and rebounder. Offensive game is still emerging, she looks more comfortable putting the ball on the floor. Finished well around the basket. Tremendous length at 6’3″ and very quick.
Madison has added some new weapons to her game this summer. She is attacking the basket more aggressively and her pull up looked real smooth. She has always had deep range on her shot so I wasn’t surprised to see her draining threes. On defense she was all over the court, defending multiple positions and setting the tone for her team.
Emily Knouse
Emily Knouse
A big guard at six feet tall and arguably the most dangerous shooter in the event. Her range is at the NBA level and she knocked down five threes in the game I watched. She hit them off catch and shoot situations and off the dribble. She is also a solid ball handler and a good passer. She is holding multiple D1 offers at the moment.
Kirsten Parypinski

Kirsten came off the bench and gave the Hawks some excellent minutes. She is a vocal leader on defense, set good screens and finished at the basket with both hands. Nice footwork and good hands in traffic. She rebounded the ball well and provided a physical presence.
Dylan keeps turning in strong performances this summer. We already knew about her strong defense, but her offense is starting to become just as impressive. She gets to the basket with ease and has a knack for finishing tough shots but making them look smooth. Working on her handle this summer has paid off as this has allowed her to open up her game. She is going to pick up more D1 offers this July.
