In this day of age, any offer is big time. We are currently in the hardest time of recruitment when it comes to players going from high school to college ball because of the current transfer portal and Covid year situations. So to receive an offer, the player needs to know that they really deserve it. Below are some individuals that have recently committed to play collegiate ball from throughout the state of Iowa.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Delanee Seay Delanee Seay 5’9″ | SG Prairie | 2024 State IA is a guard that is going to be put into an interesting situation at the next level. As of most recent, Seay has committed to a great program out of Illinois in D2 – Quincy. This is a solid commitment by both parties in my opinion but for Seay to see the floor, she is going to have to show her dominate side more and more, as she gets older. The best part about her game is that it’s versatile at the guard position so she should have a lot of chances for opportunity but at some point, she is going to have to really hone in a certain position if she wants to become elite in this sport. This is something I say about most players going to the college level and something that is more than doable for a player with Seay’s ability. All in all, she should be proud of her hard-work. This is definitely a sign that it is all paying off.

D3 – Loras out of Dubuque got a steal with the recent commitment of Mila Van Weelden Mila Van Weelden 5’9″ | SG Marion | 2024 State IA of the 2024 Class. Weelden is someone that I recently highlighted in this Class as being a player that could potentially be a steal for a college and the Duhawks got that steal. Weelden is a lengthy guard that understands the game of basketball to a T. In most situations, she is ahead of the everyone else in her thought process and that leads to a lot of success for everyone around her, a majority of the time. I think that Weelden’s game translates to the Loras program pretty well. She is going to be able to come in and produce efficiently in whatever system that program is running. As a coach, that’s all you can hope for. We will have to wait another season until all of this happens but the future is bright in Dubuque, that’s for sure.
Marquette University secured the #2 player out of the 2025 Class in Amani Jenkins Amani Jenkins 6’2″ | C Johnston | 2025 State IA about a week ago and I’m sure their coaching staff is ecstatic. Jenkins is a dominate, 6’2 center, that can be moved to the perimeter with her athleticism at any given moment. At the high school level in Iowa, Jenkins is a cheat code. There isn’t a ton of high level players, that are talented enough or physical enough to stay with her at her position, usually leading to some big time numbers. Not to mention that this season at Johnston, Jenkins will have 4 other college level players around her on the floor at all times, taking some of the pressure away from her in crucial moments. I wouldn’t be surprised if this winter starts a two year campaign from Jenkins that is at another level. This school change might be what she needed to flourish and if that’s so, it’s going to get scary real fast in 5A this winter. As for Jenkins future and the Golden Eagles, they are in great shape looking ahead.

One of the most exciting players in the state has recently committed to the Drake Bulldogs and it’s time we talk about it. Mya Crawford Mya Crawford 5’7″ | SG Ankeny Centennial | 2025 State IA , the starting SG of Ankeny Centennial, will suit up with the Bulldogs following her Senior year after this season. Crawford is electric on the court and a blast to watch. Not only is she skilled with the ball, athletic, and knowledgeable but she plays with her heart of her sleeve. Last season at the state tournament, I had a chance to see Crawford compete a few times and each game she was killing it skill wise, while also being a vocal and emotional leader. On big plays, she was hyping up her teammates and screaming with them in retaliation on both sides of the floor whenever anything positive would happen. Looking forward, Centennial is going to have a nice season this winter and in a lot of ways it’s going to be because of the play of Crawford. They will be competing with a chip on their shoulder from last year so expect them to come out hungry.
Lindsey Davis Lindsey Davis 5’8″ | SG Nodaway Valley | 2024 State IA of Nodaway Valley High School had some options as to where she wanted to play following her high school career but at the end of the day, the Upper Iowa Peacocks were the final choice. Davis is a guard that can score the ball and do some other productive things at an efficient rate on the floor. In general, she is smooth and displays a great “feel” for the game. Something that I am big on is how a player looks out on the court and the “feel” they have for the ball/sport in general. You can tell when someone is comfortable and natural with the ball out on the floor compared to when someone is inexperienced. Davis’s game-style does translate to the next level and I’m excited to see how the coaching staff will adapt to her, once she gets on campus. Over the next 3-4 years, if she is put in the correct positions to succeed by her staff, she could be a big-time scoring producer for the Peacocks. There is always so many factors that play into the college level-part of the sport so until then, Davis will just worry about what she can control and will lock in for her upcoming Senior season with the Wolverines.
