The girls high school basketball season official kicks off over these next two weeks for most teams throughout the state. While having some time to prepare for this year, I have put together a list of a handful of competitors that will be considered for our Miss Nebraska Basketball POTY. Each player is someone that is monumental in the success of their perspective team, while also being absolutely dominate in most facets of the game across the board.

Please note: This award, depending on who is giving it, usually only accounts for players competing during their Senior seasons. That will NOT be the case in this situation. Any player, from any grade level is fair game and has a chance to win.

[player_tooltip player_id='276504' first='Inia' last='Jones'] is a high motor point guard, that can catch on fire from the floor at any given moment throughout a contest. In the handful of events that I have seen Jones compete in these past 6 months, she was always a top player on the court in several different aspects of the game. It wasn't just that she was scoring at a high rate, facilitating for others constantly, or creating havoc defensively, it's that she was doing all of these things simultaneously, demonstrating truly how valuable she is to whichever squad she is lacing up with. After this high school season, Jones will suit up in the red and white with Bradley University to continue on her basketball journey. I'm not sure what types of players Bradley has coming in with Jones's recruiting class but I would be surprised if she didn't see the floor early on in her career, in some form/facet. She is a smart competitor, who understands pace of play and the teammates around her. She is someone who is going to be able to set up the others around her for success while giving everyone else the credit at the end of the day. I'm not sure if that says more about her as a player on the court or as a person in general but either way, it's something you love to see from a coaching perspective. As for right now though, Jones is prepped for a big winter ahead with her Omaha Central high school team. If they can start the season off on the right note, who knows how far they could take things this winter with Jones in charge. She is the definition of a game changer at the high school level and I'm expecting to see more of that over these next few months.
