Shields was a major piece of Whitney Young’s success this year. Being a true threat on the court made things easier for her teammates, creating open looks and smoother possessions. I can see her working her way up to a higher division over the next couple of seasons.

What most people see as a negative, Shields has turned into a positive. On the offensive side of the ball, Alana can score in the midrange and at the rim. She does a solid job of baiting the defense to crowd the paint, then makes plays for players on the perimeter or those cutting. Defensively, she uses her speed and height to her advantage. She’s up in your face on every dribble and has a great defensive stance. A college program will get a player with a ton of heart.

Don’t let the size fool you at all—Shields can HOOP. Altering her game to fit a system won’t be an issue because she has the ability to create plays for others just as well as for herself. She’s aggressive on both sides of the ball, which is rare to see these days. Huge fan of her game.

Explosive as they come. Alanna has it all. The handles, the vision, the confidence and the energy to stay competitive on the defense side as well. She can score from arc to paint and defend guards that are bigger than her. She has no fear.
