One of the state’s top overall prospects, King often draws “oohs and awes” with her speed and power as a slasher. It’s true that she has an extra gear when it comes to transition plays and slashing to the rim in the halfcourt. But she’s not just an offensive juggernaut. When locked in on defense, she’s a game changer.
Is it a bit of a bully on the defensive end, in a good way. Often has good positioning off the ball, allow her to deny and deflect passes. She’s also willing to slide over and take charges. Her “give me that mentality” leads to steals that showcase her athletic gifts with transition plays. What’s scary about King is she still has untapped potential. And looks to be getting closer and closer to reaching her high ceiling.

The engine all weekend long for LeGYNds’ 16U team, which went 3-2 on the weekend with a pair of two point losses and three double digit wins. King led the way with averages of 15.6 points and 6.8 rebounds. She’s a freight train in transition, even leading to one defender flopping before she even made contact. Has the footwork to avoid defenders around the rim too. Consistently finished through bumps and even defenders’ hanging onto her jersey. Picked her spots with three pointers, hitting a handful throughout the weekend. Looked good when she took them when set and in rhythm. If her confidence continues to grow in that department, she would become one of the most complete scorers in Oklahoma.

King was a force off the dribble from the jump. When she gets a head of steam in the halfcourt she’s often too fast and too strong. Powered her way to 15 points with a determined effort on 7 of 10 shooting. She’s had an outstanding sophomore season, cementing herself as one of the top prospects in Oklahoma regardless of class. This game also gave her a learning experience. With the game tied late, she got a head of steam and was called for a charge call with a head down type drive. Her feel as a drive to avoid charges calls and make the right passes will be a big step in her continual development.

Today it was King who stepped up from the sophomore trio to start Newcastle’s state tournament run. Went for 22 points and 6 rebounds. She’s a powerful and dynamic slasher, who even drained a second half three as a caper in the wire to wire win for the Lady Racers. Newcastle remains undefeated against Oklahoma competition and are just two wins from claiming Gold.

One of the best and most powerful athletes in Oklahoma, King has these takeover moments where she changes games. It’s pretty simple, when she’s in attack mode she explodes to the rim with rare power for putbacks and slashing drives. Consistency in producing those moments has been the key to her making the next step. Which she has been more consistent this season. King’s addition to Newcastle has helped put them over the top, as they’re 20-2, while being undefeated against in state competition. One of her best performances came in a national event. Where she went for 26 points against prestigious California program, Mater Dei. Refining and being more consistent with her jumper will be the next step for the super sophomore. If she improves there, the sky is the limit.

King was the dominant force in Newcastle’s Monday thrashing of district rival McGuinness. Had 18 points at halftime, because she assaulted the rim off the bounce and with ferocious offensive rebounds. Finished with the first half with an emphatic transition finish. When the dynamic wing is locked in like she was on Monday, she plays with a controlled type of violent athleticism that makes her nearly unstoppable. And has Newcastle well positioned to challenge for their first state title since 2016.

After a quieter opening game, King was more aggressive and displayed some of her game breaking ability to move like she does at her height. Has such suddenness to her movements, and the power that even against a tall and physical Edmond North defense she can explode to the rim. Had moments of playing with good control to avoid some of the charge attempts, or even stopping to slip passes to open teammates. Scored 11 points as she continues to refine her perimeter skills.

Strong physical player that can play 1-5 position on the court. If Amara gets going downhill she is unstoppable. Nice Euro slide step helped avoid the charge on drives. Outside shot was on point as was the mid-range jumper. Expect a big season from Amara with her new team.

Another example of a player making the leap from good to great. King is fully unlocking her offensive skillset as a dynamic slashing wing. Her unique blend of height, athleticism and strength allows her to beat up opponents at the rim. While also blow by forwards on the perimeter, or bully through guards on drives. Can either play off two feet with strong moves, or graceful footwork on euro steps and other moves to avoid defenders. King has the opportunity to be a special player. If she builds off a strong summer, she’ll be well on track to reach lofty heights.

A very versatile player that transferred from Ardmore to Newcastle. Played 1-5 last season for the Ardmore team that will more than likely play that 3-4 roll for Newcastle. Good handles in the open floor attacking the paint from wing making things happen. In the open floor she is a coast to coast attack the rim type player finishing with a euro move or spin move. Along with the scoring aspect she adds a great rim protector with her shot blocking ability.
