Clinton may be the best on-ball defender in the state. And, that’s saying something, but she’s proven it against the likes of some pretty great athletes. According to her head coach John Fowkes, “We put her on a team’s best scorer and she shuts em down.” For example, last year at The Battle for the Springhouse, she forced Greenbrier East’s Ava Workman Ava Workman 5'8" | PG/SG Greenbrier East | 2027 State WV to work for her shots. If you don’t know about Workman, she is a dynamo on the offensive end, speedy, accurate, and tough. Clinton put a body on her and made her uncomfortable, forcing her to go deep into her bag for her baskets. Coaches will want to pay attention to Morgantown’s match ups against Parkersburg South ( Lindsey Logston Lindsey Logston 5'8" | SG/PG Parkersburg South | 2029 WV , Quin Bolyard) Parkersburg ( Frances Guice Frances Guice 5'9" | PG Parkersburg | 2027 State WV ), George Washington (Rayanna Breckenridge, Jeriyah Pryor Jeriyah Pryor 5'6" | PG George Washington | 2027 State #90 Nation WV ), Keyser (Bibs Felton), Nitro ( Mika Adams Mika Adams 5'1" | PG Nitro | 2027 State WV ) as she will likely have the assignment of guarding kids bound for a NCAA Division I, II, or III school.

In my opinion, Morgantown is the team that continues to battle the most adversity. The next man up mentality has set in and this team continues to play excellent defense. Clinton remains one of the best on ball defenders, and she is only a freshman. Ava does an outstanding job disrupting opponents. If Morgantown makes a championship run, it will be fueled by the all-around play by Clinton, and her defensive energy that she brings every night! The future for the Mohigans is incredibly bright!

Clinton is the athlete that every coach would LOVE to have on their team. She has nailed the euro step, the hesitation move, and she has the ability to create off the crossover. Offensively, she has a strong skillset to create for herself, and her teammates! She has a great understanding of the game. She excels on defense. Ava is one of the best on ball defenders. I love her ability to turn defense into offense extremely fast! Check out a clip below when she picked up a huge steal and the buzzer beater to win:
