Nickson had a very strong June, impressing multiple times with improved toughness and battling around the rim. The physical talent and size has always been there for the promising forward. Now she’s playing to her natural gifts more. If the light fully comes on for Nickson, Norman North could go from a darkhorse to a legit contender in 6A. Because the sophomore has the ability to provide valuable rebounding, force steals and swat shots.

It was a very freshman game from Nickson. Had a stretch in the second half where she ran around hunting and successfully blocking shots. While also generally looking more confident and decisive with her moves on the offensive end. But there were also some turnovers and the fouling of a three point shooter late in the second quarter. There’s a lot of promise, because she’s naturally gifted with good height, wingspan and athleticism. The building blocks are there for her to take a big leap over the next year.

Incoming freshman from an athletic family, who is only scratching the surface of her potential. Was very active on the glass in the game watched, especially on the offensive end. Nickson is strong and quick off her feet for size. Right now her offensive game looks built around rebounds and attacking the basket. But defense helps highlights the longterm potential she has. Great lateral movement, and she’s very comfortable stepping out to defend against guards. Improving her finishing and filling out her offensive skillset are the next steps. If she puts the work in, expect her to look like a different player after the upcoming high school season.
