About Julieta

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My focus is on defense and protecting the paint and the basket. Defense wins basketball games!

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have a huge family, and my two older sisters both played NAIA. They are also Center players, but I am taller than they are. We grew up playing basketball with each other and supporting each other, and it is our family culture. I am a quiet, observant person.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am not in clubs outside of sports because I have to work extra hard on my school work, I have dyslexia and dysgraphia, a processing disorder, and it takes me longer to do my work than the average student. I throw the shot put and the discus at my high school's track, and work out with the runners, in my basketball off- season,

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I am still working to develop leadership qualities, and to plug into a community group that I feel confident serving. I think that it's really important to work as a team, and I try to look out for my teammates who are smaller, or at a disadvantage.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have with school due to my processing disorder. I have also gone through some experiences with peers about not fitting in, that could be considered bullying, due to my unusual size. In basketball, the summer before my Sophomore year, I had a concussion, and had to work really hard, mentally and physically to come back from that.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am thinking about possibly doing something in the physical therapy field. I am wanting to go to a college that would have a major appropriate for that field, and a team that really loves utilizing the Center/ Post position!

Diaz is the defensive anchor for a younger Lady Timberwolves team. Made her impact felt the most in an overtime win last Sunday. Blocked or altered shots first to help force overtime, then getting stops in the extra time. Along with the good rim protection principles, display similar fundamentals around the rim on offense. Catches the ball high, the finishes strongly but with soft touch. Her experience and ability to change games around the rim will be vital for Norman North this winter.
