Expert Analysis
Kyle Sandy | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
The Western Carolina-signee put a bow and a ribbon on her career, going out in style with a monster performance in a loss to Galloway. Hood collected 22 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal. The Region 8 Player of the Year got downhill consistently and was able to score with both hands. Lucy used her body well when attacking the paint and had an extremely high usage rate, asked to handle the ball and create each and every trip down while having to guard Galloway’s best player on the other end. Hood’s endurance was tested, but Lucy saved her strongest quarter for last, scoring all 10 fourth quarter points for the LadyCats.

turned it on after scoring just three points over the opening 16 minutes, finishing with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists including a 10-point third quarter, a stanza in which the LadyCats roared ahead of Scottsboro 43-35 outscoring the Wildcats 21-7. Lucy found her shot, hitting three three-pointers and a pair of mid-range pull-ups while slicing up the defense with her passing.

Lucy has great confidence pitching the ball ahead in transition and even in the half court. She beats defenses with her on the money over the top delivery to open teammates. Hood sank a pair of threes in her first game of the night, side-stepping a defender and later hitting a pull-up triple. She finished with 8 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal. Lucy had a breakout season balancing her own aggressive scoring with her playmaking. Western Carolina has offered.

Hood loves to play the role of distributor. She gets to her spots well and when attacking the hoop she likes to dish to open players on the block. Her drive-and-kick game is one of her best skills, identifying shooters around the arc. Lucy started to hunt her shot more as camp went on. The All-State guard has a reliable jump shot, shooting a high percentage from beyond the arc. She’s a good shooter off the dribble from the mid-range. Lucy’s defense took a step forward this season as an aggressive ball-hawk. Western Carolina has offered while a slew of D-II programs are tracking her intently.

take the next step in becoming one of Georgia’s best 2024 point guards. Hood was passive at times throughout last season’s run to the state title game deferring to four senior starters around her, but in order for the LadyCats to replicate their success, the onus was on Hood to hunt her offense her junior year. 17 games in, it’s safe to say Hood has done exactly what she’s needed to do. Lucy is averaging 17.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.8 steals per game while shooting 40% from three and turning the ball over just twice a night. Against Athens Christian, she attacked steadily and closed with a flurry while the Eagles tried to storm back. Hood scored 11 of her game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter to pair with her 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. Lucy hit three three-pointers, scored on floaters, drives and pull-ups. She went a perfect 9-9 from the line. Hood uses her crossover to plant her foot and go downhill with a change of pace. At the rim, she’s a physical finisher that absorbs contact well. The big guard has improved every year as an on-ball defender, making opponents uncomfortable with how aggressive she plays. Lucy is teetering on the line between D-I and D-II. She holds no offers currently but has received interest from multiple schools from the aforementioned levels. The gym rat will see offers flow in once the first one materializes.

Lucy averaged 9.5 points, 4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.8 steals per game as a sophomore. She has been on D-I radars. Hood has good size and next level athleticism and coordination. Her physicality allows her to be a very good on-ball defender. Lucy has a consistent release on her jumper and is at her best when she’s able to get all the way to the rim.
