Malia Williams
About Malia
Expert Analysis

Speaking of the rich, my goodness. Malia has a chance to be a real contributor next season for Homestead. She has a great frame, strength, length, and she’s a nice athlete in most directions. What I saw of her last Summer was primarily a 15-feet-and-in forward/post who just dominated the interior with her size. But this Spring, she has been handling the ball in transition, knocking down open 3-pointers consistently, and becoming more of a face-up ‘4/5’. Her versatility and athleticism at her size are a problem for opponents.

Williams showed intriguing upside this spring because of her skill set and advanced footwork in the frontcourt. She already has a good understanding of how to score around the basket, and her ability to establish position and finish through contact stood out consistently. What makes her game even more impressive is the patience she plays with offensively. Rather than rushing shots, Williams does a good job reading defenders and using her footwork to create clean looks.
She also moves well for a player at her position, which gives her long-term versatility as she continues to develop. Williams has the potential to impact the game as both an interior presence and a forward capable of stepping away from the basket. Defensively, she competes hard on the glass and uses her frame effectively around the paint. As her perimeter skills continue to expand and her confidence grows, Williams has all the tools to become one of the more complete forwards in the 2029 class.

I first saw Malia last June, and she showed a lot of promise for the Homestead Summer team she was with. Last weekend, she showcased a lot more versatility, and I was impressed with her skillful growth as much as anything. She has a strong, physical frame, she’s willing to play with physicality, and she is an effective interior defender and rebounder. But last weekend, she was knocking down the 3-pointer consistently, and she was putting it on the floor two to three dribbles productively. If she continues this level of skill development, she could be a real problem as an inside-out ‘4’.

As a center on Team 1 at the Freshman Showcase, Malia dominated the paint by grabbing rebounds to secure possessions for her teammates. She was able to give her team many second chances to make scoring field goals by making sure to get as many offensive rebounds as she could. As a center, Malia’s tasks on the court extend to defending the rim, which she was able to do exceedingly by putting considerable pressure on the opponents.

Good strong, physical post who controls the paint and can handle physical play. Move well defensively, switches and react in advance to the play. Solid factor with a good basketball court sense and a bright ceiling. Also display excellent range.

Williams is a skilled and versatile post player who knows how to make an impact both on and off the ball. She moves exceptionally well without the ball, finding the right spots in the low and high post while making sharp cuts to the basket. Her height and court awareness allow her to cover a lot of ground, making her effective on both ends of the floor. Though she competes behind strong players at Homestead, Malia is a talented freshman who should be on the radar of anyone following top prospects in the state.
