Throughout the week we posted evaluations of 20 players by class (as voted on by Instagram followers) each day culminating with 10 evaluations of 2023s today. This is a look at 10 players in the 2023 class who I either thought played really well or I haven’t talked much about yet this summer. You can see all of the coverage from this weekend previously posted below.
Ally Hollifield — 5’6 PG/SG — Carolina Elite UAA 2021 / Shelby HS (NC)
Hollifield is a really interesting player. She plays up on the 2021 team and she runs the show from the lead guard spot. Carolina Elite was missing a few players but Hollifield looked really comfortable. Love the aggression with the ball she showed this weekend and wasn’t backing down. Could be an elite scholarship prospect on the east coast.
Arianna Jackson — 5’6 PG — All Iowa Attack Nike Red 2023 / Des Moines Roosevelt HS (IA)
Jackson is an ultra quick lead guard with a super fast first step. She has the ability to blow by defenders on the way to the rim and doesn’t really get out of control when she has the ball. She also is very good defensively due to that quickness and burst. Fast hands allow her to generate pressure without fouling the ball handler.
Audi Crooks — 6’1 C — CY Select Alpha 2023 / Bishop Garrigan HS (IA)
Crooks is a standout every single weekend. Does pretty much everything well on the court. Crooks rebounds the ball well and she moves to go get the ball. She’s got great touch around the rim and has the ability to score at will. She’s going to be a dominant force in high school with her maturity already.
Cora Olsen — 5’8 SG/SF — Nebraska Attack UAA 2021 / Millard South HS (NE)
Olsen is a really strong player who played well this weekend. She has a bit of length and scoring to her game and I think she’s going to spurt up a few more inches. Olsen is a well built guard who can fluctuate between the 1-3 spots on the floor. A really good motor combined with scoring makes her a potent player.
Jariah Harris — 5’9 SF — Iowa Prep Red 2022 / Cedar Rapids Kennedy HS (IA)
Harris wasn’t overly productive in the game that I saw but she is a legit prospect. Really good hands and feel for the game. She’s athletic in all directions and can even handle the ball a little bit. She’s a fairly strong wing who can get stronger with maturity. Harris has a lot of potential due to her makeup and size.
Kelsey Joens — 5’9 SG — All Iowa Attack Nike Red 2023 / Iowa City High HS (IA)
Joens was on fire this weekend. I saw their Saturday morning game and she was torching the nets from deep. Really good shooter from deep and plays the same way as her older sister (Aubrey Joens / Iowa State commit). She’s quick and fluid with the ball and holds the ability to really impact the game defensively with her length.
Kenna Mongan — 5’6 SG — CY Select 2023 / Cherokee HS (IA)
Mongan shot the ball really well this past weekend. She has a good feel for the game and a high basketball IQ. Decision making was really good at times this weekend and she doesn’t force up shots. Mongan can get really hot at times and torch the nets and she was on the verge of that this weekend.
Lexi Finkenbiner — 5’9 SF/PF — Nebraska Attack UAA 2021 / Millard North HS (NE)
Finkbiner was playing up on this Nebraska Attack UAA team as well. She’s a mobile wing who can slide down to the power forward spot with her toughness. In the long run I think she stays on the wing where her mobility is going to continue to climb. Really solid presence who can bring a scoring punch from the outside and inside.
Molly Joyce — 5’6 PG — CY Select Alpha 2023 / Bishop Garrigan HS (IA)
Joyce struggled a bit in the first game I saw this weekend but really turned it on in the second game. Good decision maker with the ball and pushes it up the floor quickly. She’s a lefty but can finish at the rim with both hands. Fantastic motor allows her to makes plays happen on both ends of the floor.
Sierra Emison-Clair —5’7 SG/PG — Kingdom Hoops Navy 2023 / Valley HS (IA)
Emison-Clair is a super intriguing piece on this Kingdom Hoops squad full of length. I really like her overall ability to score the ball at the rim through contact. She also has the ability to shoot the ball consistently from the outside and also defend at a high level. This Kingdom Hoops Navy team has a lot of intriguing pieces but Emison-Clair might be the most complete right now.
