Continue ReadingIt felt great returning to the gym for the first time since the shut-down, and you could definitely feel the energy in the room at the DMV Jam Fest — a two-day basketball tournament in Sterling, VA — hosted by BIG TIME HOOPS. The information below covers the first weekend of the tournament held October 3 and 4, which was the first of three weekend events. It highlights the top three players from the class of 2026.
Genesis Schneeberg – #1 | F | Fairfax Stars
Genesis was the top performing forward over the weekend and was a force in every game. She is a backdown punisher, has great size, and can get into position on the block where she is most effective. In addition to getting in great position for entry passes, she is a putback boss and finds herself in great spots for offensive boards and knows what to do with them. Genesis led her team in points per game with most of those points coming from the paint. It is clear that Genesis understands her advantages and is able to identify mismatches quickly. Once she gets the ball on the block, she is able to finish through contact and can often get to the free throw line or convert and-ones. As a bonus, she is reliable from the free throw line, shooting roughly 80% from the stripe.
Alexis Riggs – #13 | F | Team Final
Alexis was the most versatile forward I saw during the first weekend. She can be effective with her back to the basket, as well as facing up. She is a consistent finisher, often getting to the line and is able to make difficult shots. Alexis is a scrappy player with a high motor, who does not shy away from contact and often chases down rebounds, resulting in her leading the team in offensive boards. She is also able to push the fast break if needed and can be a fastbreak finisher.
Madison Nicholson – #0 | G | Fairfax Stars
Madison was the most impressive guard over the two days, among plenty of talent on her team. A classic combo-guard who can bring the rock up with ball pressure and initiate the offensive. She is also effective playing off the ball and is a confident shooter from distance and is a great catch and shoot player. In addition, she is excellent at pushing the break, getting to the basket, and finishing strong. Madison was also the best on-ball defender, a great trapper, and has quick hands and reflexes, racking up steals at an average of 2.5 per game, leading her team in that category.
Looking forward to covering these athletes during the next DMV Jam Fest weekend. Check back in at Prep Girls Hoops for more coverage from the DMV Jam Fest #2 on November 7 – 8, 2020.
