The Nike Nationals is arguably the top tournament in the country for girls basketball and a staple end of season tournament that attracts tons of college coaches and many of the nations top players. Team Takeover has qualified for the tournament every since joining the Nike EYBL family around seven years ago. It is the true measure of talent and team chemistry as the the top teams finally go head to head against the best EYBL teams each region has to offer for the crown of Nike Nationals Champions.
Yonta Vaughn Yonta Vaughn 5'7" | PG Bishop McNamara | 2022 State #68 Nation MD – 5’8 – Point Guard
Yonta dropped a team high 17 points, going 4 for 5 from beyond the arc in TTO’s first game against Pro Skills in a losing effort. The crafty point guard is also the teams assist leader notching 8 dimes in a win against North Tartan and 7 their victory against Exodus. In the final game Yonta shooting 100% from the field, scoring 5 points in just three minutes. Yonta is amongst the top pure point guards in the nation and one of the most unselfish players one the floor in any given situation. She looks good in making her teammates look good and could fit in at virtually any program at the next level.
Qadence Samuels Qadence Samuels 6'2" | SF Bishop McNamara | 2023 State MD – 6’2 – Wing
Qadence averaged 12 points and 5 boards in her six games in Augusta. She was super consistent logging double figures in each game. She had 7 rebounds against Drive Nation with 4 coming on the offensive end. She seemed to gain more and more confidence as the games and tournament went on taking about five 3-pointers a game, shooting around 37 percent from that range. She still manages to mix things up inside getting to the line every game where she is a pretty good free throw shooter at close to 90 percent.
Gia Cooke Gia Cooke 5'9" | PG Bishop McNamara | 2022 State #50 Nation MD – 5’9 – Combo Guard
Gia was consistent throughout averaging close to 15 points per game. She shared point guard duties with Vaughn and even in her lowest scoring output (9 points) versus Alabama Southern Starz, she put out a team high 10 assists after as Vaughn was sidelined minutes into the game. Gia’s fast pace style put pressure on the defenses to get back in transition or pay, she will be an asset for many teams at the next level as coaches emphasize their desire to push the ball.
Jaydn Donovan – 6’2 – Wing
What Jadyn brings doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet but her visuals are off the chart. She has some high flying acrobatic finishes that are extremely rare for girls basketball. One play against North Tartan where she took off from the free throw line and finished at the rim had college college coaches high fiving each other. She is pretty efficient and easily averaged double figures throughout the tournament while shooting over 60 percent from the field. Defensively her length is disrupting as she was the team leader in steals stamping her as one of the All-Tournament team members.
Sahnya Jah Sahnya Jah 6'1" | SF Bishop McNamara | 2023 #50 Nation FL – 6’1 – Wing/Forward
Sahnya is dominant on the boards and showed her ability to keep plays alive on the offensive glass. She had a double double with 10 points and 11 boards in the win over North Tartan showing her versatility. She showed that she can be a force on the offensive end as well scoring a game high 19 points. She had only attempted one 3-pointer during the Nike Nationals but has shown in previous tournaments that it can be part of her arsenal going forward.
