Prospects from several areas across eastern North Carolina made the trip to Wayne County to sharpen their skills against high level competition. Prep Girls Hoops NC takes a look at some of the top standouts from this event.
Harmony Martin (Terry Sanford 2023 guard, Fayetteville Stars)
Terry Sanford guard Harmony Martin took home MVP honors from this event and rightfully so. She set the tone on both ends of the floor whether it was getting key stops defensively or attacking the basket on offense. Martin is a capable shooter, but did a lot of her damage in the paint and by creating good shots for her teammates. She’s coming off of an excellent summer with the Fayetteville Stars and will be a key part of what should be an excellent Terry Sanford team this season.
Ariyona Spearman (Union 2024 guard)
Ariyona Spearman is a talented 2024 guard based out of Union High School in Sampson County. She was one of the top scorers in the state as a freshman averaging over 25 points per game in the Carolina 1-A conference and showed why at this event. Spearman is a really good mid-range and three-point shooter and had the full display on across the two games she played. Expect her to be a breakout performer in a talented 2024 class of guards.
Ma’Nyah Thomas-Wilson (Living Water Christian 2023 guard)
Ma’Nyah Thomas-Wilson is an aggressive scorer and defender who had a great sophomore season at Living Water Christian in Jacksonville. She played with a lot of energy and made a lot of nice plays passing the ball. Thomas-Wilson handles the ball well and rarely turned it over during the two games she played. Expect her to have a big junior year for the Warriors.
Darrionna Howard Darrionna Howard 6'1" | PF Clayton | 2023 State NC (Clayton 2023 forward, Carolina Flames 2022 EYBL)
Clayton rising junior forward Darrionna Howard Darrionna Howard 6'1" | PF Clayton | 2023 State NC capped off a great July with a big performance at this event. After getting to the final four of the Peach Jam with the Carolina Flames, Howard was a matchup problem for anyone who guarded her. If defenders gave her space, she’d hit jumpers over them and if they stepped up, she’d drive by them and attack the basket. Multiple in-state, mid-major D1 programs have offered Howard over the last several weeks and rightfully so.
