The class of 2026 and 2025 really came out strong at the event. The ladies seemed to approach the expo much differently to me then the boys did. They were all business. They talked with their game for sure. A few players really stood out head and shoulders above the rest to me. I will break down my top 5 players at the event.
The first player that really showed toughness all day was Madison Hillman Madison Hillman 6'1" | PF Saint Ansgar | 2023 State IA from St Ansgar. The 6’1’’ 2023 big was effective inside and outside all day. Plays hard on defense. Great rim protector with a smooth jumper as well. Post up game and rebounding was very strong. A lot of girls didn’t even try to get to the rim against her in fear of being swatted.
The next big that really dominated inside all day was Missy Evezic from Saint Albert. The 6’3’’ Post was dominant once she caught the ball on the block. Defenders were pretty much done once she got a touch in the paint. Her shoot blocking was on point and she really runs the floor well for a post. She’s so long she can finish in traffic easily over her defender and plays solid defense.
One of the most impressive all around players of the day to me was Jariah Harris Jariah Harris 5'11" | SF Cedar Rapids Jefferson | 2023 State IA . The 5’11’’ Cedar Rapids Jefferson guard showcased her skills big time. It’s pick your poison with her game. She can take over the point and straight up bully ball any player to the rack. She plays off-the-ball well also. She can post up or hit the three ball on you as well. Her basketball IQ is very strong and she was consistently finishing at the cup or making the right play with an assist.
The next player is a walking bucket with crazy handles and shimmy and shakes. The North Polk Guard Makayla Boatman Makayla Boatman 5'6" | SG North Polk | 2023 State IA was putting buckets on people all day and breaking ankles. Her ability to break down her defender and score or make the right play was great all day. Aggressive and isn’t afraid to get to the rim at all. Boatman’s crossover had girls falling back all day. She shoots the ball well and plays aggressive defense.
The last player in my squad of five was Kayla Reis Kayla Reis 5'7" | PG Dallas Center-Grimes | 2024 State IA . The Dallas Center-Grimes guard was literally shaking girls and on fire all day. She has a quick trigger three that is deadly and her ball handling skills are on a yo-yo. She is a smart guard who knows how to share the ball but also score in bunches. She plays tough defense and doesn’t give any breaks on both sides of the ball always pushing pace. Look for Dallas Center-Grimes to go deep in the playoffs this year with her talent and she has a strong team looking to take state this year.
