The first full week of the season is upon us and we are looking for the best games on each day of the week. This is our breakdown of the week ahead.

Monday: Des Moines North (0-1) vs Ankeny (0-1) 6:15pm
Both of these teams are 0-1 on the year but have lost to really good opponents in games that they were competitive in. Des Moines North was beaten by Ankeny Centennial in their opening matchup. Ankeny was beaten in a close game by Southeast Polk. Both of these teams have some young talent that are really solid. Des Moines North has freshman center [player_tooltip player_id="311351" first="Amani" last="Jenkins"] while Ankeny has freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id="311376" first="Savannah" last="Gage"]. Those two are freshman who will make an impact in the game but there are others who will be heavily relied on in this one. [player_tooltip player_id="246112" first="Karsen" last="Jacks"] and [player_tooltip player_id="63055" first="Jenna" last="Pitz"] will also be players to watch for Ankeny while [player_tooltip player_id="63638" first="Laphina" last="Campbell"] and Nya Mach are two for Des Moines North to keep an eye on.2
Tuesday: Central Lyon (1-0) vs West Lyon (1-0) 7:30pm
This is a big battle and both of these teams come into the season with high expectations. Both of them won their opening game and will be teams that win 15+ games this year. This is the first true test for these teams this season and it will come early in the season. Look for some answers on the ability of both of these teams to come from this game. There are quite a few players on both teams that can really score the ball but there is one player on each team that will be the key cog. For Central Lyon, 2023 South Dakota commit [player_tooltip player_id="160568" first="Addison" last="Klosterbuer"] will lead them while West Lyon will be led by 2022 South Dakota State commit [player_tooltip player_id="63568" first="Brooklyn" last="Meyer"].
Thursday: Storm Lake (1-1) vs Denison-Schleswig (1-0) 6:00pm
Coming into this week both of these teams have looked very solid. Storm Lake is 1-1 while Denison-Schleswig has not lost a game yet. Look for these two teams to have a battle on Thursday as they have been both led by underclassmen so far this year. Storm Lake’s leading scorer is Adeeya Yanga who has scored 19.5 points a game while shooting 55.6 percent from the floor. The freshman has been really good for her team thus far this year. Denison-Schleswig has been led by Kiana Schulz who has scored 18 points a game so far this year. Both teams also have a player who has scored over 14 points a game. This is going to be a very solid game.
Friday: Cedar Rapids Washington (1-0) vs Iowa City West (1-0) 7:30pm
One of the best games of the week will pit Cedar Rapids Washington up against Iowa City West. Both of these teams are 1-0 on the season so far and have provided good wins over very good teams. There are a few players who will be impact players in this one but none as big as 2022 Iowa commit [player_tooltip player_id="13957" first="Hannah" last="Stuelke"] for Cedar Rapids Washington. Stuelke scored 36 points in the opening game this season and seems to be on a mission for her senior laden squad. Iowa City West got a good win over Bishop Garrigan to start their season and will look to continue that momentum here. [player_tooltip player_id="63070" first="Meena" last="Tate"] scored 23 points in that game and will be a player that IC West relies on a lot this season. This is going to be a great Friday night battle.
Saturday: Glenwood (0-0) vs Johnston (1-0) 7:30pm
The nightcap of the Winter Tip-Off presented by Johnston High School and Prep Girls Hoops is going to be a game between two state title favorites. Glenwood will have a few early week games prior to Saturday this week but will be ready for Saturday night against Johnston. Johnston sits at 1-0 on the year and will look to build on that this week as they get ready for Saturday. This game is going to be one of the most talented games of the season between the two top teams in 4A and 5A. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id="128995" first="Jada" last="Gyamfi"], [player_tooltip player_id="129017" first="Anna" last="Gossling"], and [player_tooltip player_id="129034" first="Zoey" last="Buchan"] will look to lead Johnston. While [player_tooltip player_id="63624" first="Madison" last="Camden"] and [player_tooltip player_id="63558" first="Jenna" last="Hopp"] are going to be two key players for Johnston in this one. This is going to be one of the best regular season games of the season.
