The Southwest Wake 4A conference has four teams with winning records. Let’s check in with these team leaders for each group.

Panther Creek

[player_tooltip player_id="207414" first="Amira" last="Ofunniyin"] (SF, 2023) is so tough with the ball. My bet is on her for winning 50/50 balls, and she isn’t scared to strip the ball from her opponents on a press to score some points with ease. Her length and athleticism is instrumental at the top of her team’s press slowing down offenses with deflections and steals. She is flashy getting in and out of the paint being a moving target to shift the defense.

[player_tooltip player_id="275969" first="Madisyn" last="Jordan"] (G, 2023) has the height of a forward and the finesse with the ball of a guard. She can drive to the paint showing off a nice spin move for the bucket, or she can set herself up outside the arc to drain the shot. She uses her height to get inside and grab rebounds making defenders pay for her second chance opportunities.

[player_tooltip player_id="326206" first="Taylor" last="Barner"] (G, 2024) is an efficient ball handler and having a stellar season averaging almost 20 points a game. She gets to the hoop with ease, and she can shoot from all over the court. Her change of speed is lethal when working the defenders reading the floor well to know the best direction to go. She isn’t shy about crashing the boards for some rebounds, too.

Apex Friendship

[player_tooltip player_id="116890" first="Indya" last="Nivar"] (G, 2022) continues to show why she is one of the top players in the state and now a McDonald’s All-American. She’s a player that leaves her all on the court diving after loose balls, hustling down the court on defense, and showing off amazing ball moves to get to the hoop going through contact for some points. She can score in so many different ways using spin moves with her back to the basket, draining a jump shot, or putting her head down to drive hard to the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id="285949" first="Jasmine" last="Nivar"] (G, 2025) is following close behind Indya’s footsteps showing off ball moves and a high IQ already. She does well crashing the boards for rebounds, and she finds the openings on defense to get the pass and score or find another teammate to get some points. Her pass fakes easily throw off her defenders as she makes her way to the rim finishing for some points.

Victoria Sagne (G, 2023) seems to be thinking one step ahead whenever she gets the ball knowing exactly how to put the ball through the hoop whether she is set up behind the arc or she is ready to drive to the basket off of a fake. She shows patience when it comes to making her cuts without the ball ready to flash in the paint to catch the pass. She can definitely battle through contact for some old fashioned three point plays, too.

Green Level

Maria Savvun (PG, 2022) is typically controlling the ball at the top of the key, but she makes excellent cuts without the ball to get some points from a pass. On defense, she can certainly keep up with speedy guards as they attempt to handle the ball driving past her with very little success.

Madison Nereu (SF, 2022) is leading the team in points and rebounds showing off her efficiency from all over. As a post player, she does a great job moving her feet to keep her body between her opponent and the basket preventing them from scoring. She runs the floor well being ready in transition for the pass and to score it with ease.

Holly Springs

[player_tooltip player_id="201034" first="Sammy" last="Ackles"] (PF, 2022) is dominant all over the court, especially in the paint as she can score in many different ways. Starting with her back to the basket, she does a great job making a move to face the rim and score. Her wide stance boxing out makes sure she is the only one who can grab the board. She can definitely block shots inside, too.

[player_tooltip player_id="116911" first="Staci" last="Williams"] (CG, 2023) does an excellent job pushing the ball up the court, and her passes to her cutting teammates in transition are made only to a place where they can get them instead of being intercepted. She is so quick off of her ball fakes that she gets to the basket to score before her defenders have a chance to recover. She is great at making those tough lob passes into her post players for their own points, too. She can definitely hustle back on defense drawing a charge with no fear.

Alondra Arroyo (PF, 2023) uses her length well at the top of the press for her team. She deflects passes with ease. She makes smart cuts into the paint, and having her arms up in the air makes her an easy target for the pass, so she can score some points. She has a nice drive to the paint and a floater that she can put up over her defenders to score some points. She can seal off opponents as she is facing the basket for the lob pass and bucket. Her up and under move by the basket was difficult for others to defend.
